Putting On Weight By Not Eating Enough?!

Question: Well, I've been told that i should eat about 1400 calories. So far today (it's 4:30) I've only eat 670. I've put on a lot of weight recently (20 lbs. Yikes!) I've been wondering if maybe I've put on weight because I usually finish the day under 1000 calories? What do I do to fix this without stuffing myself?

Yes...eating too few calories can actually backfire. There really isn't a reason you should be eating less than 1000 calories a day, as eating a healthy amount isn't at all stuffing yourself. Depending on how much exercise you do, you should be eating somewhere between 1200 and 2000 calories a day.

Simply choose healthy foods and make sure you're eating either 3 larger meals a day or eat 6 little "meals" throughout the day. You shouldn't have a problem bringing that <1000 up.

No, eating under your calorie limit would help you LOSE weight, not gain it.

Exercise...Also if you do not eat enough calories your metabolism will slow down and store fat for energy. Eat small meals 5-6 times a day and try to get exercise.

It could be what you are eating..a lot of carbs or fatty foods maybe? It could also be stress, or lack of exercise.

When you don't get enough calories to provide your body with the nutrient requirements it needs just to keep on living ,your metabolism slows down to try and preserve what nutrients it does get to keep your body going. Not eating enough calories could actually keep you from losing weight.

You really should see a medical professional and get checked out to insure all of your systems are OK. Maybe have some blood work done to make sure you don't have something going on with your thyroid or something.
