Does coffee make you lose weight?!


Question: I heard somewhere that drinking coffee makes you lose weight and i dont know if its true or not!
i drink my coffee black too so i dont know if that helps?!

Caffeine is a diuretic (sp?) and as such can be useful in weight loss. It is also a stimulant and therefore increases your metabolism, again useful for weight loss. However, I wouldn't recommend a 20 cup a day diet of coffee - it is addictive and can damage parts of your body - there would have to be a better way to lose weight.

Coffee itself won't "make" you lose weight, but the caffeine in it can help. Caffeine acts as an appetite suppressant.

No it doesn't. All American religiously drink coffee and a lot of them are obese.

God how I wish that was true. I am a coffee addict. So no it does not make you lose weight. However, coffee can be considered a form of a laxative if you have a sensitive stomach. There is a new diet drink on the market that is supposed to be coffee or you add it to your coffee I saw a comercial for it. They claim if you drink their stuff in place of coffee you will lose weight. Personally don't waste your money. The only thing that will help in weight loss is excercise and sensible eating.
