Centrum pills, dangerous on the long term?!

Question: I bought a centrum performance, now I know that its better to take it if I have a crappy diet and didn't eat enough on the day, but I remember seeing something on my local news made a study(south florida channel 11) about people who took multi vitamins dying a lot younger than people who didn't take them, so I have a few questions:

1.I bought centrum performance, should I take them JUST when I eat badly for the day? My good day meals consist of a chicken tv dinner with mash potatoes and corn, a cereal bowl In the morning. Rice with beans and chicken, more cereal or a sandwitch, a snack(maybe something frozen) with some vegetables and fast food(usually snackers or whopper jr from kentucky.

2.How long does it take for the stomach to digest the pill?

3. I heard that it has a overdose of vitamins that are proven to be bad in large doses, is that true?

4. Are the chewable flinstones a good substitute?

There are many nutritionists who say the synthetic, lab created vitamins in tablets like Centrum have little value because the compounds that usually accompany them in natural foods are missing and the vitamins need them in order to be useful in the body.

There have been studies where high doses of synthetic vitamins have been shown to have negative health effects.

Your stomach doesn't "digest" anything. It takes your whole digestive system to do that. The stomach breaks things down. The small intestine absorbs nutrients. The large intestine recovers water and gets rid of waste. There are those who claim synthetic multi-vitamin tablets take too long to break down and the nutrients aren't properly absorbed, or the chemicals that would be present in the natural foods the vitamins are in would need to be present for proper absorbtion.

I would try to find a multi-vitamin where all the vitamins are derived from natural sources. I believe the body was built to starve for nutrients sometimes and cleans itself out this way. I think it's good to eat really well and take vitamins for a few days... then maybe eat lightly and not take vitamins for a few days... drink some water... I think it's very healthy to go into fat burning mode sometimes. The constant availability of food and never having a "clean" system may be what causes many of our health problems. Old, oil soluble stuff that's accumulated and concentrated in your fat gets burned off... Maybe some fat that's accumulated in your arteries gets melted and used....

There are all natural "greens" vitamins that are made from concentrated green foods that may be missing from your diet. There are other all natural multi-vitamins made from "super foods" that are supposed to be more complete. Either might be better than a synthetic multi-vitamin... or a good change from them sometimes... Why put all your trust in one product? A varied diet is always the most complete. Natural can get expensive... http://www.amazon.com/Natures-Plus-Sourc... You can usually find some affordable store brands of natural vitamins and super food supplements...

1. you are NOT eating a good healthy food plan. It doesn't look like you like or eat green veggies!! Nor do I see fruit in your food plan.

2. that was one study and a very small one at that. News media sensationalism junk based on junk science.

3. Why would you want to go back to baby vitamins? Flintstones????

4. it is possible to overdose on some vitamins, but you would have to take several of those Centrum tabs every day for about a year to overdose any one vitamin.

With the food plan you listed, you really do need the Centrum vitamin tabs. Take one a day with breakfast. Or you can change your food plan and include in more dark green leafy veggies with tomatoes and apples or something like that.

.there are two types of vitamin fat soluble (A,D, E, K) and water soluble(C,B's). water soluble you pee out. fat soluble if you eat a lot constantly can be bad (too much or not enough of any thing like fats carbs vitamins sugar can be bad)

from what i heard centrum is coated with something that make it hard to digest so you prob aren't getting much from it. usually you want to spring for a good brand .

BUT..
look into the recommend daily amounts of vitamins and minerals and eat foods that have them id it's a lot cheaper that buying pills. pills are meant as SUPPLEMENTS not SUBSTITUTIONS. Your body will do better from a natural source.

if you you still want to take a multivitamin ask a doctor, nutritionist or even a chiropractor if possible they might have some brands
