I'm sorry about your friend, that is really hard but it sounds like you are ready to move past that issue and deal with your weight now, so good for you!
I know it sounds boring, but I suggest starting to write down everything you eat in a food diary and this means everything. Over the course of a week or two you will be able to see patterns of poor and smart food choices and begin to make changes. Sodas and chips are a good first start of foods to avoid as they are high in calories and offer nothing in terms of nutrients.Substitute fresh fruit and or fresh veggies that you like as snacks.
Begin to increase your exercise level with walking and or running as well as floor exercises such as crunches which will help with your tummy area. You may want to talk to your PE teacher and ask her for pointers as well. And do not forget to drink lots of water which will help hydrate you during your increased activities.
Instead of focusing on your weight exclusively which can fluctuate daily and plateau occasionally, take initial measurements of your chest, waist, hips, arms and thighs. Check these measurements once a week and you will be pleasantly surprised at your results even on weeks where the scale was less than wonderful in terms of pounds lost.Often inches are a more revealing measure of a fitness program's success. I would not suggest getting on the scale more often than once a week.
If all of this seems too hard to do alone, Weight Watchers has a really solid program with as much or as little support as you want via both meetings or, if you prefer, online support.
Another group that has helped a lot of indivifuals is Overeaters Anonymous or OA. OA is a 12 step program that is free of charge and has meetings all over the world. Please see the link below.
Lastly I would strongly encourage you to look into some sort of counseling to work through some of the feelings around the loss of your friend that led to your change in eating habits. The counseling may just be a temporary thing but it can often help clarify important issues that will help your diet and exercise efforts be a success.
Good luck, you can do this!!!

i think u should do alot of exercise, however it should b done in moderation
best of luck with it

I eat 1000 calories a day and burn 1000 calories a day and it really helps a lot! I've lost 2 pounds in 1 week. The point is to eat really heathy (Wheat bread, egg whites, veggies, fruits) and get a lot of exercise. Oh and drink A LOT of water... No sugars. I also drink a lot of green tea!

I would suggest a lot of situps, starting out with 10 or so.Lots of walking helps as well.

Maybe it's part of puberty and getting bigger then getting thinner and taller.

One of the easiest ways to lose weight is to
#1) eat a good breakfast every day
#2) keep dinner light and don't eat after 7 or 8pm (the earlier you can stop, the better)
#3) don't give up just because you don't see results immediately or because you "mess up" and eat a late snack one day. start each day new.

You'll start seeing the weight go down immediately and you won't have to change your normal habits too much.

The best way to loose weight is YOGA. Try it, it really works.

When you're a teenager, it's really ahrd to lose weight, because your body is changing.
But basically, with doing these simple things that im about to explain, you should gradually lose weight, and begin healthy habits.
Heres some tips,
-always have breakfast, (proof shows, that breakfast is the meal that stops you snacking throughout the day) eg. special K, any cereal with the heart foundation tick of approval, a piece of toast and some fruit
-Try bringing healthy stuff for luch at school, instead of bringing chips- bring some rice crackers, almonds, stuff like that, instead of juice bring water, and make sure your sandwich has as much vegetables etc as possible, bring some fruit aswell, or some vegetables- carrot and cucumber sticks.

-Excersize for at leats an hour a day, every night before bed, try skipping for 20 minutes, trust me you'll get fitter, go for a run, engage in a club sport, kick the ball in the backyard, take the dog for a walk etc.

-Remember, there can be a healthier alternative for everything, just think about it, if you start living a healthier lifestyle, not only will you feel healthier, you'll look it aswell!
All the best for the future and Good Luck!

Exercise regularly for at least 30 minutes a day. Or, you can engage in sports. As what the others have said, try to eat less food than your usual intake. In that way, your body will burn calories faster.

Also, eat small meals, crackers for example, every two hours so that when you have your lunch or dinner, you won't feel that you must eat a lot.

first remember, that weight was gained with the passage of time ,so reducing it back will also take ti,e.
you are a 14 years old teenager,so ofcourse i wont suggest you a crash diet or what so ever coz its ur growing age and then u will loose all ur glow of skin.
follow these steps.

after gettingup in the morning, have a juice of a lemon mixed in a cup of luke warm water.
then have ur breakfast..that is tea or skim milk or coffee without sugar with a toast of bread.
then take a fruit with u to the school, either it can be orange or an apple... have it in the mid morning!
drink loads of water every halg hour... or take one glass after every hour..
keep sugar free chewing gum with u...and have it when u have a craving for some sugary food~
then in lunch have a huge bowl of ur favorite salad...with seasonings of salt and pepper and 2 piece of boiled chicken or a bowl of lentil soup or any soup...
then repeat the lunch u had in the dinner...but have one piece of brown bread ..and u can take boiled meat..or boiled veggies...
always remember that u can have any food in ur lunch and dinner but it should be cooked with maximum of 1 tsp of oil!
not more than that!
DO NOT STARVE URSELF AT ALL!
have green tea 3 times a day!
have an apple or orange in the afternoon!
have skim milk!
walk or exercise for 30 mins daily!
AND UL HAVE THE RESULTS WITHIN 2 MONTHS:)
with this diet u will loose 4 -5 kgs per month!
u r just required to be patience!

exercise alot..

its best to build your running time up if your not the fittest ( like me )

day1) 5 minute jog - 20 situps
day 2) 10 minute slow jog - 20 situps
day 3) 10 minute jog - 30 situps
day 4) 15 minute slow jog - 30 situps
day 5) 15 minute jog - 35 situps
day 6) 15 minute jog/run - 40 situps
day 7) 20 minute slow jog - 45 situps

i did this routine for about 3 weeks and i lost 4 kilos.

but 80% of weight loss is DIET!
you wont need to do a diet..all you do is eat 3 normal healthy meals a day.. or 5/6 small meals a day.

dont slack off and say oh just a little chocolate wont do any harm! next thing you will be doing is eating 5! trust me if you eat alot (like me) it will happen.

and the last thing to remember is NEVER GIVE UP! dont worry too much if you dont see immediate results it takes time..

now iv'e written this i might start mine again =)

gewwwd luck!

Very easy - cut out the chips, the junk food, the burgers, the white bread (white bread is the worst!), cream, cream cheese, cheese, mayonnaise, sweet carbonated drinks like cola (which are slow-acting poisons), fatty meat, heavy sauces .... and as much processed meats as you can.

Instead of chips, eat an apple and a banana.

Substitute white bread for wholemeal or wholegrain brown.

Learn to live on very moderate amounts of junk food, there's a reason why it's called 'junk food'. No more than once a month. Learn to like pizza without cheese and with a thin crust.

Eat fish, lean meat, as much raw fruit and vegetable as you like - raw fruit and veg actually take energy to process in your system, meaning that not only to the fibres they contain clean out your digestive system, but your body also uses more calories in digesting them.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.

Eat 5 small meals a day, rather than large meals. I mean proper meals, like a salad with a piece of meat or fish, or a potato with another veg or salad, or a small helping of pasta or rice with something else. You won't be hungry if you do it this way, and it really will help speed up your metabolism so that the excess baggage you want to shed goes away.

One thing - MEASURE YOUR CARB PORTIONS! You need carbs, cutting them out of your diet is not good, but you want to make sure you don't take too many, so weight your pasta, rice, potato before cooking. About 100g 3 times a day is fine.

Moderation is the key.

try doing some hoochie koochie dancing in front of a mirror every nite. my niece did like 2 hours a nite 4- 5 nites a week and lost 40 lbs over the summer and developed some kinda curves to boot

i grew up fat. fat was me. i was the one that the boys moo'd at in the hall ways. i was the one that no one wanted to be around because i was soooo slow at everything (so they thought).... i didn't exercise. i didn't eat well... i did every fad diet there was... i grew up fat. it's sad to be that way.

Take some of the advice of the other posters, get some exercise. start with a good breakfast, eat healthy cut out the fats/greasy & fried foods. you're young, your body is changing... you're starting habits now that will affect you the rest of your life... don't be like me... the sad fat girl...who then had to have surgery to loose the weight. (that is ultimately a dangerous and last resort)

ur not that fat
but ur really motivated with is fabulous :P
here some tips for ya :
- breakfast:
- semi skilled milk with high fibre cereals (really good for digestion and makes u go to the toilet :P)
lunch:
- a fruit of ur choice, salad and water not orange juice!!!
dinner:
wotever ur parents cooked but take less say that ur not hungry and stuff that u ate too much!
but still eat coz otherwise ur metabolism is confused
try walking alot
dont eat crisps, coke , chocolate and bread for a while until ur happy with ur weight
i think with this diet u will be 120 pounds soon

xxxx
ps. if sometimes u aint hungry dont eat have a fruit

am sure u can do it girl!!!!

ATTention!!!! it could be insulin resistance. my daughter was chubby too, and inspite of exercise her weight loss started plateauing. we went to the dietician and she diagnosed the problem, which blood tests confirmed. some of the symptoms are dark patches underarms, a dark line around ur neck, period problems, patches on your scalp, faCE TURNING RED IN SUN, apple shaped body. if you think you have these symtoms go to an endocrinologist.

You may actually be at a healthy weight for your height (since you haven't listed a height here)

But if your really worried about it I reccommend working out with a friend, going for long walks, hikes or runs, you can chat the whole way, and any cardio will help you burn fat.
