How do I stick to working out? I need some tough love advice.?!

Question: I get so discouraged. I really want the weight to go overnight, lol, I know that's really silly. But ugh I just get so discouraged seeing all my weight. Why does it take so much time to lose it?
I know I know, it took time to put it on, but still, I get so discouraged, I give up sometimes, I want to finally stick it out. I'm sick and disgusted with being fat. UGH.

Gimme some advice, any advice, anything to get me to stick to it. I need some "tough love" advice.

I am glad you are a very realistic person and you know that it won't happen over night. You need to make working out second nature. It needs to be part of your regimen. Everyday you get up and brush your teeth, and that is how exercising should be. Psychologists say that after about 15 days of doing something it really begins to become an ingrained habit. If you really stick to it for a little over two weeks, you will become accustomed to it. Variety will allow you to keep up the exercises, because you won't get bored. Join an online community and/or keep a journal so you see your progress and feel motivated. Create a list of why you want to lose weight. They should be reasons to help you become a better person. Every time you feel lazy or unmotivated, read that list. Also, have a friend that you can call. If you don't feel like working out call her and tell her you need motivation.

This is going to be a really positive experience for you, and you should really remain committed to this to live a healthy life. This is not something to do to lose a little weight and stop. This is a lifestyle change, and exercise should always be a part of your life for now on. Good luck!

Okay. The secret to weight loss.

Eat all you want. Stop all exercise. You will initially gain weight. That is okay. Keep eating. Do not exercise. Soon, you will become thoroughly lazy. You will lose your job. You will have no income. You will run out of money. You will no longer be able to buy food. You will no longer be able to eat. You will lose weight!

Or, eat sensibly and exercise!
(Oh, yes, just put $10 in an envelope and slip it under the door. Thanks!)

Make an online journal or paper journal & keep track of your workouts & your progress. Pick one day a week & weigh yourself every week on that day first thing in the morning (before you eat anything). You might want to also get some tape measure & tract your waist size too. I had a rough start the first couple weeks of working out but seeing written progress helps me stick with it.

It helps to workout in the morning so it's out of the way & you don't keep putting it off until it's bedtime & you just don't feel like working out.

Also make sure you're getting variety so you don't get bored. If you're going to a gym try different classes. If you're walking/jogging get a book with local hiking trails to mix up the scenery. If you're doing workout dvds www.videofitness.com is a great site for trading the dvds you're bored with for different ones. You can also try different dvds from the library, netflix, some video stores.
