Losing weight is a simple equation: if you burn more calories than you eat, the weight will come off. Start off by estimating how many calories you burn each day using the daily calorie needs calculator http://calorieneedscalculator.com This will give you an idea of how many calories to eat. Healthy weight loss is 1-2 pounds per week. To lose 1 pound per week you need to create a calorie deficit (burn more than you eat) of 500 calories per day. To lose 2 pounds a week, you have to double the deficit to 1000 calories per day. You can achieve this by eating less, exercising more or a combination of both.

Weight Watchers has a great teen program. You can go to meetings or join online.

Eat low fat, low cal diet. Eat wheat bread instead of white, drink ALOT of water. And exercise, exercise, exercise! Try fat free dairy products, such as fat free sour cream, cheese, milk, etc. And if you can't stand the fat free taste in some things, try light! I personally can't tell a big difference in regular & fat free, not enough for it to be worth it! And subsitue chips for reduced fat cheese nips or something if must have something salty like chips. Portion control & plenty of veggies & fruits! Good luck!!

What is your favorite sport? Join a basketball team at the YWCA, or go swimming with a membership at the YWCA.

Don't overdo the diet, you're still growing. I strongly disagree with the above poster who said you should be on a low-fat, low-cal diet.

Restrict carbs (i.e. go on a low-carb diet) unless you compete in some type of aerobic sport. I'm talking track or cross country team here, I certainly would not worry about my times in distance running in phy-ed class -- no colleges care what grade you got in phy ed! Do not restrict calories too much, especially after you have started getting thin. I'm thinking for you not to go below 2000 calories per day at the very least (you're still growing). You may well find that you can lose weight on many more calories than 2000; keep records and chart your progress.

Take it easy! Plenty of meat, chicken,salmon, and green salads for you. Use low-carb (not necessarily low calorie) salad dressing like ranch style, my favorite. You'll lose the weight, keep the muscle, and keep growing that way.

I use to be just like you and there is hope considering i was 196 and 14 and I'm a girl so it was hell.
Here are my suggestions stay away from things like sweets, extra snacks and if you really want one go for a healthy one like an apple. I lost my weight by counting calories and ate 800 calories or less a day.
Now your a boy so you will actually loose weight at a faster rate then i did so i would actually eat around 1400 Cal's a days . You can do this without feeling hungry here is away to do it, get a food journal, and start writing down what you have for breakfast , snacks , lunch and dinner.
Example;
Breakfast 1 slice wheat toast with 1 tbsp peanut butter
and cheese stick.

snack: an apple

lunch; apple, cheese stick , vitamin water and 100 calorie pack snack.

snack; small orange

dinner; boiled chicken breast and string beans

now you are young so i would talk with our mom and health care provider to figure out the best plan for you.
Good luck
