When I'm jogging out side how can i feel less embarrassed?!


Question: ive got quite abit of weight on me and im trying to lose some by jogging on a daily bases but i feel embarrassed as i feel like people are watching me and laughing or saying things. i know i shouldnt care or think like that but i cant help it, can any of you give me any advice that would make me think less of this and keep me confident of jogging and no feel embarrassed

when i see someone jogging no matter how over weight they are, they impress me because it takes alot of courage and energy to do that...so dont be embaressed, be proud, even if your overweight your not sitting at Mcdonalds stuffing your face, your trying to lose weight and become healthier...hold your head up high and jog fast with a smile

Go with someone else

When I see someone "overweight" actually run, I am way more impressed than someone who is actually physically fit. Why? Because that overweight person is showing dedication and commitment to returning back to a healthier person.

And hey, who are you truly running for? Are you running for them? It's NOT about them. This is about you. When it comes to winning, all other people should cease to exist in order for you to accomplish your goal.

Get a buddy to jog with or try an Mp3 player so you can listen to your favourite tunes. And know that there are people out there like me that are looking and thinking - wow - good on you! Go for it!

You have to buy a jogging machine to avoid public, you can do it at home any time you like.

have some1 else go with u or just take your ipod along so u wouldnt hear their stupied remarks and just think how great ure gonna look when u lose all the weight =D

Keep giving yourself positive affirmations about what you are doing. Remind yourself that if people are laughing at you (even if it is just in your head) that at least you're doing something to improve your health - anyone who laughs at someone doing something to better themselves is only jealous that they haven't got the self discipline to do it themselves! Well done!!!!

I agree with the first answer, go with someone else.

If you can't do this, just wear your mp3 player, and if you jog past someone, (this is very important) greet them!! Confidently say hello, or say something about the weather (don't shout at them). This will show you are not running yourself so hard you can't speak, and will show them you are a normal, outgoing person, and you'll find it does alot for your own self esteem as well.

Find a track at a high school and jog after hours where nobody's around..

Drive to a part of town where nobody knows you and decide not to give a F@%$.

Get drunk first. lol

Get a treadmil in your house untill youve lost enough.

or

Put a hood on like Rocky Balboa.

The good news is its only a temporary problem.

Ok it may feel like people are watching or laughing, I would say...so be it.

Will they be watching and laughing once your at your target weight and size...probably not. You'll be the one who can laugh then.

Good on you, just get out there and do whats best for you. The people who laugh and snigger, want to see you fail, because they have petty little lifes, and can only feel good about themselves by belittling others.

How about trying a variation of cycling too?

So long as you are wearing a jog suit and not lycra, and have a bra that keeps things under control, then i doubt that people would be watching you.

Dont be paranoid or self-conscious, and feel good about yourself! YOU will be the fit, healthy one, not them, yes?

jog in afternoon where it's not so bright, so no one will notice you in detail :D but remember to bring some company

There is nothing to be embarrassed about.You should be proud of what you are doing. But if it really bothers you try jogging really early in the morning or late at night when there is not whole a lot of people around.

I feel guilty if i see an overweight person jogging.Because i know i should be doing something other than thinking about it.

You are running for your own good not for them; just do it and ignore everyone else; maybe you could find a friend to jog with

i run with my i-pod.....it makes me more determined to run with the beat

i run in the morning, as i dont like people watching me, i see the odd people but i take no notice and it makes me feel good thinking of the future outcomes of my runs

if i find it difficult to wake up early, i do it late evening around 7-8 and this is when quite a few people go running, it seems like a social thing and you shouldnt be embarassed because they are also doing it!!

You shouldnt be embarassed about what people think, see who's laughing when you look great!!!

There are many great answers here already, but one thing that helps me to shut out the world is listening to music as I run. I don't think people are staring half as much as you think, and they probably wish they had the guts to do what you have done. Stay healthy!

i use to feel like that too. if you carry on jogging you are not going to be big for long and you won't feel embarrassed because you will be losing weight all the time and looking good. my husband takes our kids on a local field to play football and he See's this lady jogging and he says he remembers when she was big and now she has lost loads of weight.

dont care what others think because by the time u end up fit ur only helping yourself and girls will be onto u. do not care, put an mp3 player on

go with some one else! i have my sister on her bike and i find i hiareous as it gives me somethings to keep up with! and keeps me going.
also try to ignor everything, imagin that your in your own ball or world, dont look at people who are watching and just carry on jogging! it will be hard at first but it will work!
and just think that your are doing something good for yourself and they dont want to so they are being lazy!
