What can I use to help with muscle soreness after intense workouts?!

Question: Medications, supplements, vitamins and minerals....a little help?

Answers: Medications, supplements, vitamins and minerals....a little help?

Ice and ibuprofen. I, myself, actually love the soreness. It feels good to me. If you really don't like it, Ice for the first 48 hours and 3 x ibuprofen, 2 times a day. Ice for about 30 minutes at a time. That is the best way. Don't spend money on recovery supplements, they are rather pointless.

In response to the others...
NO to heat, heat is bad in the acute stages of an injury (ie. first 48 hours). It is bad, bad, bad and actually makes the soreness last longer.
Also, NO to stretching before. Numerous studies have shown that stretching before a workout does absolutely nothing. Also, stretching for less than 30 seconds on a body part is just as pointless. Stretch AFTER the workout if you really feel you must stretch. Don't do it before as you are just wasting time.
On the BenGay, absolute waste of money. Bengay, IcyHot, HeadOn, all those topical creams have no physiological effect on anything that is beyond the first 2 or 3 layers of epidermis. All they are is skin irritants. In other words, they burn you. People think they work because they feel a burn, this is called placebo effect.

Jija, muscle soreness is in NO WAY caused by lactic acid build up. Lactic acid re-converts to peruvic acid within an hour of exercise. Muscle soreness is caused by myofibril tears. Why would this cause soreness? Because your muscles are tore, they rebuild. It is out of sheer ignorance that 90% of these answers were born.
ICE it

Ben Gay.

stretch before and after your work out...and put heat on teh muscles in between if they're bad (or soak in the tub)

Badger rub. You can find it at health food stores, or Icy-Hot.

Spend time stretching before and after your workouts. heat helps also.

I take an asprin the moment after I'm done working out and that does the trick for me, but here are a few more ideas on what you should do:

You need to warm up before you work out also,,that will help some...I would take tylonal if they hurt alot and try to work up to a point so you aren't so sore the following day...It gets better everyday just work up to it....You shouldn't be hurting,,that tells you ,you over did it...take it easier...

icyhot works really good the only thing is the cream smells like mint or take vitamins with alot of potassium in them

Stretch before and after you workout. Stretch before you go to bed that way they won't hurt as bad when you wake up. Also use Icy-Hot.

Stretching before a workout, doing warm up sets, protein shake before your workout to help repair muscle. But there should always be a little soreness after a workout. Muscles have to be torn in order for them to grow bigger.

i would say the same as most people have which is warm up and warm down exercises. i have a running machine and always warm up and cool down a bath afterwards is good too.

Stretch your muscles out and loosen up. Stop exercising for a day or so to let your muscles relax then carry on with your exercises leaving a day after each exercise to let your muscles rest. Eat protein or supplements protein will repair torn up ligamets and mujscles. Muscle soreness is caused by the build up of lactic acid in your muscles. To avoid this always stretch and warm up before and after your work out. Never overdo things build up your exercise gradually. So like if you are unfit dont do 100 reps. Start with maybe 20 reps then gradually do 22 then maybe 24 until you gradually get to 100.

Well what I normally do after Figure Skating when I feel intense pain, I put an ice pack on where ever it hurts and then take a heating pad and put it on there. It really helps. Or you can also use Motrin. Then I try not to use that muscle as much as I normally do. Try and warm- up before you start exercising. Bring an energy drink too. This is what I do to help me. Hope this helps you:]
