Do you gain weight faster after a certain age?!

Question: I will be 20 in about a month and seem to actually gain weight now. When I was younger I could eat whatever I wanted and not gain a pound. Before Christmas I was 95-97 lbs and now I am about 100 -102 lbs. Could it be a slower metabolism? The fact that I am getting old? Or maybe that it is winter (I live in Canada) so I am no sweating off the pounds?

K thanks

p.s. I am really short, 5'1, so I am not actually sickly skinny for my height.

getting old at 20? No dear you are from from old. To answer your question ( I am a 43 yr old female in USA, NJ) yes, I do seem to now think a woman's body changes with age. My body did a bit when I was twenty, then 30. Then it remained the same until now!!I ate whatever I wanted and still looked good (especially for my age) I still do I am told. But anyway, I can't get a few pounds off as easily now at when I was 30. I assume it will get harder as I age. Don't worry, you certainly don't sound over weight. Nor are you terribly short. Your body is developing into a woman's body now. Don't sweat it. Of course unless you gain too much, eat right, exercise and drink plenty of water. Winter months I gain about 5 lbs myself.

Yes, but you aren't old enough. People exercise less when aged, so require less food.

Yes. Most women fill out a bit at the end of their teens and early 20's. It's very normal.

I would say during puberty but Christmas time is a normal time when people gain weight. You spend time with loved ones and eat special dishes and usually don't exercise during that time. I recommend just getting some cardio but maintain eating healthy.

I don't know if you actually gain weight faster, but I do know that as we age, it takes longer to loose weight. That is due mostly to a change in metabolism. But, at 20 this shouldn't affect you yet.

I'm sorry about you living in Canada. Was the walrus hunting good this year? As you get older it gets harder to keep weight off. I was kidding on the first two things, :)

you don't gain weight faster.
your metabolism slows down. Therefore, it seems like you are gaining weight.
Plus you are probably not as active as when you were a teenager.
