Heart rate monitors?!

Question: i've recently started exercising and i want to start increasing intensity and i want to keep track of my heart rate. some people suggested i just take my pulse myself but sometimes it is very hard to find, sometimes its even hard for the doctors to find it. anyway these people then suggested getting a heart rate monitor. so i wanted to know if anyone can recommend a good heart rate monitor or a site i can go to that will have a nice variety to chose from.
thanks

I would recommend polar as the brand to look at. As you get more expensive, you get small increases in accuracy, but mainly just more functions that will do fitness tests and write out training plans for you ect. I have Polar F4 that I am very happy with. I do not feel that i need all the extra functions and the F4 is accurate enough for my needs and has a big enough memory for me to be able to write down my scores after.
