First of all, CONGRATULATIONS on already losing 12lbs. The hardest part is usually getting started so KEEP IT UP! Yippeee!!!

That's true... Diet Pop DOES make you bloat and messes up your sugar levels. Try to avoid it. I've switched over to green tea instead. It has no calories, is an antioxidant, and serves as a pleasant alternative when water begins to taste bad. Plus it's unsweetened so it won't' mess up your system. It can easily be found in Chinatown if nothing else. And you can buy it bottled or make it at home like regular warm tea, put it in a pitcher once it cools down and keep it in the fridge. I used to drink tons of Diet Pepsi to stay awake when doing homework for college n whatnot, but Green Tea keeps me awake just as nicely plus it's also strong in Vitamin C. You just can't go wrong with this!

Some eating right tips...
* NEVER skip breakfast. Have something that will hold you for a while and try to be "healthy" about it. Oatmeal, whole meal toast, unsweetened cereal such as Cornflakes or Special K with milk, etc. are all WONDERFUL choices. If you still like Bagels and whatnot (I love bagels myself, ha ha) opt for the whole wheat ones and try to pick butter or cream cheese that is reduced fat, or even non-fat if possible.
* Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables each day. Seriously! :) And keep it varied. Only celery and carrots will mean that you will get bored easily. The only fruits and veggies you should avoid are carrots (they have TONS of sugar!!!), avocadoes (as fattening as butter or well... almost!), and mangoes (sugary!!!!!!). Everything else is generaly ok.
* Try to avoid taking in tooo much salt. This causes water retention. And this means you have excess water weight in your body.
* Try to reduce carbohydrate intake after 7pm and have dinner at like 6pm or 7pm. That way whatever you eat will still have a chance to be burnt off and won't stick around as fat storage. You know you're doing it right if you don't feel hungry when you go to bed but are hungry within like an hour of waking up and then it's breakfast time.

Exercise...
* Try doing 30 minutes of cardio (walking, running, elliptical, etc.) 3 or 4 times a week for starters. Then increase as you get better at it.
* Try to include some weights in your routine as well, maybe twice a week for starters? Having more muscle burns more calories so that way the weight will go sooner.

AND FINALLY...
* Drink at least 2 liters of water each day!!!

Hope that helps. BEST OF LUCK! ^_^

Cut all sugars and breads out of your diet completely.

Check out the book "You On A Diet, the owner's manual for waist management". Written by two doctors Michael F. Roizen, MD and Mehmet C. Oz, MD. It has the best information out there right now. They tell you how different foods are processed in the body; why you crave certain foods, how to resist cravings; a 20 minute exercise routine with lots of other exercise advice; and recipes. Check out the websites as well. Good luck, keep up the positive attitude and motivation!

You didn't say how tall you are or how muchweight you would ultimately like to lose, so I probably can't be too specific.

Diet and exercise are clearly the best and healthiest ways to lose excess weight. If you are doing strenuous exercise 3-4 times a week for about 45 minutes to an hour each session should be enough. once oyu get to your target weight you can probably drop back to 3 times a week for a hour each session and maintain, as long as you don't go crazy with your calories.

Your caloric intake should be around 2000 calories a day. That may sound like a lot, and it IS a lot of food if you are eating healthy. If you're eating junk food and diet sodas then you are consuming useless garbage that is only going ot make you feel worse in the long run. Diet sodas are poison, in fact, soda is poison no matter how you take it (diet, caf. free, or reg.). Drink water with lemon or lime, sparkling water with mint. It's very refreshing and once you start drinking it you'll realize your body craves pure water more than anything.

Just keep up hte exercising and healthy eating and you should lose weight a a healthy natural pace (about 2 lbs. a week).

Try sticking to non-processed food. Absolutely no hydrogentated fat/oil and little to no sugar. Then try to get as many fruits and veggies as you can. Swear off fast food. Try to brew Good Earth tea and then put it in the fridge for iced tea. It's pretty sweet and you don't need to add sugar. If you're not used to exercising, start by walking every single day for at least 30 minutes. Don't try to jog, especially on pavement. Walking hills really good for getting your heart rate up and burning calories. Lifting weights will help you develop more muscle, but at your age alot of that happens naturally. It's really easy to injure yourself by lifting weights wtih the wrong form, so don't try that unless you get personal instruction from a trainer. Good luck!
