If you do push ups, place your hands next to each other on the ground, thumbs almost touching. This will put most of the strain on your arms (the further apart your hands are the more it works your chest).

I have written a page on body weight exercises if you would like to check them out. I recommend them to my clients because they

1) don't require any equipment
2)can be done in your own home or while traveling
3)and you won't injure yourself doing them

They also give you functional strength and build your core up.

Good luck!

Push ups are great! They get you ripped and you can just do them in your room while watching TV or listening to music. I have heard The Perfect Push up is good.

Also, would they let you use dumbells? If you just get two 10-25 lb. weights they are benficial.

Also, resitance bands are good too.

Good luck!

do pull ups your arm has three heads and push up will work triceps and deltoids more and you biceps need more of a push and pull motion to be build up you can also use resistant bands.

put a hawg on your bak.

They are slightly mistaken... it is not necessarily bad to lift weights when you are young. Some research is necessary to find out exactly which exercises should be avoided. As a general rule, they are the exercises which can cause spinal compression (things like squats.)

If you are specifically looking to increase your arm size, you can safely do preacher curls, underhand and overhand forearm curls, and tricep extensions with dumbbells. These dumbbell exercises shouldn't cause any health problems.

It would be a good idea to talk to your doctor first, but they should be perfectly safe.

There is nothing wrong with you lifting weights at your age ,as long as you use good form and don't go to heavy. You could do the regular push-ups to build your triceps(back part of your upper arm), but if you are just using your body weight, the best exercise for big triceps are "dips". Put to chairs about 3 feet apart , stand between them and place your hand (palms facing backwards) on the edge of one and put your feet on the other. Now bend your elbows and lower your butt towards the floor and press up, then repeat until you can't do anymore. This will set your triceps on fire and add more mass than push-ups will. Triceps only make up 70% of your arms , so you will want to build your bicepts also. Close grip pull-ups work good for this. You will need a bar or something you can pull yourself up with. Grip the bar with your palms facing you and close together (6" apart). Lastly, ask your parents how your muscles are so smart, that they can tell the difference between lifting your bodyweight or a barbell?Weight is weight, your muscle don't know the difference.
