How do I increase my pushups/situps/pullups/ and run time?!

Question: I am 5'7 and 200 pounds. I just recently started looking into the Army. I have a few years to accomplish my goals. I want to lose weight and join the army after college. And then Apply for the US Army Rangers.

- Pushups - Max so far= Around 40
- Situps - Max so far = around 50 or so
- Pullups - :\ like 1...heh
- Mile Run - around 7 minutes (last time i was timed i got about 6:30 but that was a long time ago.)

How can I improve my stats and do very well in the Army PFT?
I play football and weightlift, and pretty athletic for my size.

AND

How can I gain more endurance? I think i am pretty tough mentally but strength wise..
Wheres a good diet plan that can help me lose the excess weight, im supposed to be around 5'9-5'10 and i want to be like 140 or around that by the time im done with college( 6-8 years from now.)
And Im joining the National Guard Next Year.h
Also. I found a pushup routine. - Does it work

good luck. I think your goals are a little unrealistic. but hey, go with what works. I will say to drop to 140 lbs from your 200 you will end in the hospital. that is 60 lbs. that is ove 25% of your total weight. i can say if you could do a half triathelon you would be ready. That is swim, bike, and run. It is a test of endurance and the ability to improve what you may be weak at. yes, pull ups/pushup/situp is an easy way to gauge progress, but there is more to the p.t. test than that.

use a mirror (not a scale) for your diet and use what is on your shoulders (your head) for getting through the challenages.

Try these websites. They're loaded with great info on what you want to accomplish. If I were you. I'd get "Never Gymless" off of www.rosstraining.com and "The Naked Warrior" off of www.dragondoor.com.

Read this short article on "Grease the Groove" also. This is the key for your pull ups. Do a search on Grease the Groove also for more articles.
