Is my son under weight?!

Question: My son is 8 & 1/2 years old, 4 ft 1 inch tall and weighs 3 st 7lbs. I feel he is under weight but i cant find any definate figures online. He looks very thin to me! He eats well but simply doesnt put on weight. He was in an accident last july and broke his leg and this was when his weight decreased. Should i take him to the doctors about his weight?

i have the same problem my son is 4 years old and weighs 2stone.
my 2 year old weighs just under 2 stone and is still in 12-18 month cloths.
i think he is under weight for his height and age but u shouldnt worry take him to ur gp and see what they have to say.
i also have a 7 month old who is a little porker she was 9lb born and now weighs 19lb. but doctors says she fine and i dont over feed her.

I wouldn't worry. I don't know what 3 st 7 lbs. is????

YES

Could be that he just has a fast metabolism.

Ask him if he feels weak. If he does, he's not getting enough nutrition.
I'm sure you're feeding him enough, so if it's nothing you can fix at home, you might want to get professional advice about it.

Hope all goes well.

Not at all. That weight is quite normal for his age.

if you are worried speak to the doctor. they have growth charts that will tell you if he is in normal ranges.

Yeah Id say he is underweight. My daughter is 6 (only just) and weighs nearly as much as that and she is not what youd call a big girl, shes quite petite, so if I were you Id take him to your GP just to be sure. He might just be one of these children who dont put on weight easily and the accident would have not helped.Your G.P will refer him to a dietician if he thinks theres a problem.Good luck x

the moment you think about "should i take blank to the doctor because of this problem" it never hurts to give the family doctor a call :) here is a height / age / weight chart hope this helps.

yes, he is slightly underweight.
I don't know why he would be losing weight, but in my suggestion have more Carbs And Protien in the same dish. Such as Spaghetti Bolognase, Homemade Pizza, Steak + Potato (maybe homemade chips).

Those are pretty good examples, but he should put on about 8-9 lbs

no, he will get bigger as he gets older anyway

if your worried about his weight take him to the doctors to put your mind at rest. As long as he's eating well, he's probably just one of those lucky ones that have a fast metabolism and doesn't put on weight.
