Problems with my stamina?!

Question: I'm a guy in my mid 20's and in pretty descent shape. Last night while training however. I kind of fell short. For some reason I wasn't able to keep going during practice I was left gasping for air much sooner than I would have expected. I had a few heavy days the last few days with little sleep and not too healthy eating/drinking, allthough yesterday was fine My question is: Can these or other factors influence your general endurance over the course of a few days. If so what factors influence your physical fitness and endurance the most.

You are basically what you eat. When you eat to much simple carbs and sugar (count most alcoholic beverages as sugar) your insulin levels can spike up making your blood sugar levels low. It is like it will over react for a period of time. If your electrolytes get out of balance this can also cause you to feel stiff sore and a bit out of it. You should recover in a couple of days of good sleep and a regular healthy diet.
If you have been drinking a bit too much Gator Aid is good or a similar beverage to replace electrolytes that to much sugar and alcohol knocks out of your body.

Your body is an intelligent machine and it will try to adjust to your life style within certain bounds. When you change that pattern it will let you know. That is why it is easier to gain weight than to lose it. It is also why being fit in your middle age will help your overall well being into your "old age". It is OK to party once in a while, but expect to pay for it in symptoms that you describe.

If the lethargy and shortness of breath continue for a week or more get a check up. It could be a sign of some underlying problem.

Yeah,if you are tired through lack of sleep, you won't perform to your optimum potential.

Common sense isn't it? Sleep well, eat well, train well.

well, if your training you already know that eating right makes all the difference!! I dont want to be short, but you probably answered your own question- you need food, sleep, and regular periods of rest between trainings.

Are you taking in enough lipids in the morning to have fuel throughout the day?

Are you suffering from stamina loss due to dehydration? 70% of americans are dehydrated and dont know it!

Are you experiencing a crash from caffine or energy drinks?

Are you taking a vitiman b supplement?

Good balance of Omega 3's?

The point is, these are the questions you need to ask yourself.

It's amazing how FAST a fine tuned body can get interrupted. From eating one bad meal and not exercising just one day you could feel a dramatic change when exercising. The lost of stamina could be from the lack of sleep as well as your food/drink intake. Your body hasn't received the amount of rest it needs then tries to pull the energy from the food you eat. It's all about balancing your work out with the food you eat. It's tough to do... esp when there's so much good food out there! Good luck!

If you don't have the correct balance of nutrients, low GI carbs and good quality protein, along with the trace elements to make them work, you will fall short.

This can be exacerbated by dehydration due to caffeine or alcohol.

Other factors can be lack of rest or viral or bacterial infections.

One last area that effects this is your mental state. If you are depressed or anxious, it can make a big difference.

Both previous answers are correct. The simplest answers are often best, that's been my experience. While your body is infinitely more complicated than machinery, an analogy does work. Put junk in a machine and push it's limits and it will breakdown. No amount of tinkering(fad diets, vitamin regiments, energy boosters,so on) can replace regular maintenance(rest, proper diet, exercise).Personally I believe in exercising within limits(like breaking in an engine). When your body is performing well at a certain level, then you may push farther, longer, at an increased pace. I've found a slow down, cooling period to a good workout helpful to preventive maitinence.

You need more sleep usually. Also, how you have been feeling throughout the day will add up to your emotions while working out. If you were feeling good, then positive energy you will feel during the workout. There is something called chi, since you're into martial arts I'm sure you've heard of it but I'm not sure as to whether or not you fully believe in it. Anyhow, also, you might just need different types of cardio work overall. If you're used to the same routines then your body has become used to it, therefore it doesn't bother your body anymore, so you must try and confuse your body by always changing your routines, whether it be cardio or weights so that way you work at optimal performance. Also, keep a good diet and eat more, (around 6 times daily), but smaller meals. It makes your metabolism burn faster. I prefer about 3 small snacks in between 3 small meals, make it proportionate about 2-3 hours before each snack or meal. Use these articles to help you out.
