I suppose a healthy way of putting on weight would be best. Gaining muscle is the way to go, then. Consider lifting weights for bulk. Don't worry. As a girl, you'd have to try *really* hard to end up looking like an Amazon.

Another thing to think about: Since you're athletic already - I take it you play a favorite sport or two - make performance your goal, and the looks will come as a matter of course. You'll play better. You could lift for looks, but it wouldn't help you any other way. For return on investment, I'd opt for exercising to *do* better than *look* better - that's killing two birds with one stone.

That translates into training for your sport. Ask your coach to help you draw up a plan, then make it happen.

That's my answer for you; I hope it helps. Can I go into this more with you? I just want to make sure you understand what's behind your question, because that's more important than the question itself.

You've asked something; when it first become an issue for you? Performance didn't sound like an issue when you asked your question. So unless you want to wrestle in a higher weight class, you probably want to look like "the other girls." Am I right?

If so, consider this: some of them are probably trying to be as thin as you! To them your "super-skinniness" is ideal. Both of you want to fit in. And that's understandable.

But now I have to ask: are the girls you want to fit in with, do they somehow try to make you feel self-conscious about your physique? You might think twice about hanging out with them if they do, because their behavior says, "I'm more shallow than a puddle on the sidewalk."

Now if they *don't* pick on your figure (I'm not through with you yet, my friend), what got you self-conscious about it to begin with?

Sometimes I go out because I want to eat; other times I go out because I want to get away from my boring home; and sometimes I'm just too lazy to cook. I'm doing the same thing, but for different reasons.

Find out what's really motivating you to want to look bigger - if you don't know already. When you know that, you're in a better place to decide how to handle it.

Take a step back and just observe yourself. When do I start comparing figures - in the locker room, or in the hall between classes, or wherever? Maybe some gal gets attention you want, and you chalk it up to her figure. I can't answer this for you; I hope I can help you find the answer if you need help that way. It takes more effort this way, but the payoff is a lot higher. All the best to you!

1- why do you want to gain weight?
2- eat food with more calories!

Take invatory of how many calories you're eating every day and then add 500 for a week. At the end of the week weigh yourself and contiue to up the cals by 500 until your weight begins to climb

all i have to say is about a million of ppl wish they had your problem but protien shakes are a healthy way to put on weight eat healthy though.. just b/c your skinny doenst mean big macs are good for you. i would talk to some on in a health food store or like GMC

if you really want to gain weight, add 500 calories a day to your diet. This will add 3500 calories a week, and 1 lb of fat is 3500 calories. You should gain about a pound a week doing this.

Eating foods that spike insulin in combination with high gi carbs to supply glycogen to be stored as fat, meaning eat foods that are high in protien and fat such as red meat in combination with high gi carbs such as potatos and tortillas or sugar I would gain weight with natural foods not sugary sweets for major health reasons. Of course there is also weigh gain supplements you could look into

Um that was me when I was a freshman. I never did gain in highschool no matter how much I ate. Not until a few years ago did I start drinking Ensure for weight gain along with my regular meals and gained some weight. I also absolutely HATED the weight gain and thought it was the worst mistake I ever made. Careful what you wish for. I'm back to a size 3 like I was before (went up to a 7 when I gained) but now I have a gut and love handles I am trying to get rid of so I can wear a bikini again. If you don't work out you will just gain in certain places like stomach, hips, face, arms etc and it won't look good...

Good luck.

hey, all u gotta do is pig out on the crap that i wish i could eat everyday!!! and believe me, if i could, i would eat like 10 pizzas and 20 gallons of ice cream!! lol, hey, jus kiddin - all u need to do is stop any exercising yur doin, and jus sit on the couch everyday watching TV and eat totally fattening stuff.

I don't think you'll be able to gain weight and stay healthy, I had the same problem when I was your age, and my 15 year old sister has it now, she hates how thin she is, and no pants ever fit the way she likes. I'm telling you though, when you get older, like 18-21 you will gain weight, I did. Just be happy with your size now because I promise, it's not going to last.

I had your problem when I was in high school. If you have no health problems that would preclude you from doing this, I suggest supplementing your meals with a high quality nutritional supplement that has a breakdown of roughly 50% carb./30% protein/20% fat. It is usually in powder form and you mix it in milk. AND, I recommend weight training! I've seen many of skinny kids put on good weight in the gym. How quickly you put on weight will be dependent on your particular body make-up, and how hard you work out.
