Calculating calories needed

1) calculate your body weight by dividing your weight in pounds by 2.2 =kg

2) find gender and age, multiply weight in Kg by calories needed

Age Kcal/kg
Male 11-14 55
15-18 45
19-24 55

females 11-14 47
15-18 40
19-24 38

104 / 2.2=47.27 repeated = about 47
47 x 40= 1880

1880 calories

3) if over weight - a few, to gain + a few.

I'm 5'4" and weigh 120lbs.
For a teenager the recommended amount of calories is 2000, but thats just maintaining weight.
So if you were to eat 1200 you would probably loose weight.
So 2000 calories is what you should eat.

2500 calories a day. 1200 isn't enough for someone so young and probably pretty active.

hey I'm 17...but a tad taller and alot heavier ha ha... But yeah, I would give it a rough average...anywhere from 1400-1800....in my personal opinion, 2000 is too much, and unless you are looking to lose weight (this would be hard to believe) then I would say 1200 is too little. Whatever feels right for your body and lifestyle.

based on your stats, your base metabolic rate is 1330 - that means that you burn 1330 calories jsut by breathing, using your organs and maintaning your body temperature every day. You would burn that much just sleeping all day, it does not account for any other activity like walking around or doing any kind of excersize. Eating anything less than your BMR will put your body into starvation mode and can cause damage to your organs so 1200 is definitely not enough, and really you want to be aiming for quite a bit more than the BMR to account for any activity you do. Depending on how active you are, 1500-1800 should maintain your current weight, but as you are still growing, 2000 will probably be a safer bet.
