Ankle weights?!


Question: I bought a pair of 5 pound ankle weights, if i wear them while im cleaning, running errands, working, etc. will this help me any?

Ankle weights are not the best way to go. They are good if you are doing specific floor exercises like leg lifts but not if you plan to wear them while you walk around a lot.

What happens is that as you are stepping forward, the weight has a tendency to push your foot further out then you plan on and pulls at your knee muscles. The same happens when you push your leg back.

When I was watching Oprah the other day, she and Valerie Betinelli were talking about wearing a weight vest when walking . I looked it up and found some information on them and how they work and pasted a page below. It may be a good substitute for the ankle weights and a bit safer for your body.

any resistance will help...overtime though your body will adapt and you will to find other creative ways to stimulate fat loss and muscle growth
