Help! Weight loss and Fussy eating? Please?!

Question: Hey. This is really pathetic probably but i really want some help. I'm about 5''3 and i weigh around 114 pounds. However i really want a flat stomach and i wanna lose some unwanted fat around my sides and legs. One problem is i'm a fussy eater and i have no idea how i can solve this problem. Sometimes i just stop eating completely because i think i'm fat and i feel i look really horrible. I suppose you could say i'm pretty much doomed ?

Here is a simple routine you could try. The first thing to do is use a body mass calculator to calculate what your healthy weight range will be. Just put in your height, weight and age, it will generate a healthy weight range for your stats. This may vary as muscle mass does weigh more than fat. Then get yourself on a healthy diet plan, there are 3 top diet plans that have had great results. You can find a free body mass calculator and compare the top 3 diet plans at the reference site below.
The next step is to get into an exercise routine. I have had great results using the circuit routine style exercise plans. They are easy to fit into your daily schedule and they are effective. Also, make sure that your exercise plan includes plenty of cardio, walking, running etc. I would also suggest eating around 5 small healthy meals daily, versus 3 large meals, this will help to boost your metabolism throughout the entire day which in return will burn fat faster.
Of course, this may sound easy but when you first start it will be a hard transition. If you stick to it and maintain strong will power; eventually these routines will become second nature. Good luck with your choice to lead a healthier life.

I guess that would be your choice.

I know everyone says this.. dont just have a jacket potatoe for lunch.. have a solid breakfast maybe fruit juice, tea and cereal solid lunch pasta and a fruit juice and dinner maybe sheperds pie and then some chocolate.. and have little snack throughout the day.. because if you stop eating(not saying you are) but if you do it slows your metabolism down and you actually gain weight.. so if u eat more it speeds up your metabolism and you can eat alot and not put weight on.. and if u excerise then you will lose alot of weight with that diet and excerise x

u soundlike u are on the path of anorexia...ur NOT EVEN BIG!! u are supposed to be 115 pounds at ur height! u need to get sum help...

You sound like you are just right!!!!!

Our society tells us that we are all supposed to look a certain way and be thin. In fact, we are all bombarded regularly with messages that being thin and beautiful are the end all be all in life. This makes most of us insecure.

If you do not work on how you feel about yourself in general, it doesn't matter if you lose a few pounds or not. I've worked with individuals who lost all their weight, but still didn't feel good about themselves.

The more important questions to ask yourself are:

do you eat to cope with life?
do you binge eat?
In general, are you eating when you are hungry and stopping when you are full?
do you feel good about yourself?

I work with teens and young adults, but this information is the same no matter what your age. It is very important for all of us to work on feeling good about ourselves. If you are a teen or young adult, I recommend that you talk to one of your parents. Perhaps they can help you find a way to feel better about yourself and increase your self-esteem. You might also find some resources on the internet or a book on increasing your body-image.

I have just created some free podcasts that you might find interesting on topics such as increasing self-confidence, why dieting doesn't work, how to dispute society's messages that we are all supposed to look a certain way, etc. Most are set up to help with people who struggle with weight, but there will be several that you might find helpful. Right now there is just the introduction podcast available, but we will release a new one each week. You can listen on our site or on itunes.

Good luck!
Dr. Kim
