I quit cooking with vegetable oil and now only use olive oil. Will this help?!

Question: My cholesterol is in the low 200's, so I started taking fish oil and quit using vegetable oil and am trying to cut the fat out of my diet. Will cooking with olive oil help or is that just a ploy for the olive oil company to sell more of their very expensive product?

LOL, I don't think the olive oil companies are out to get you.

Oil is oil. It can be good for you in moderation, but once you start eating it like it's going out of style, it usually becomes your enemy.

You can actually cook without using any kind of oil 90% of the time. For instance, if you're grilling chicken, use non-stick spray instead of oil. You can't taste a difference and it's usually a lot healthier than a big glop of oil.

Good luck

dunno

not really because some recipes have to have vegitable oil.and if they dont you will not get it to turn out the way you want it to be.

Talked to your doctor, but I heard that avocado, nuts, and things with omega 3 oil are good to rase the good cholesterol, and lower the bad one. so I think you are doing the right thing.

Yes, this should help. Vegetable oil is made out of "things" that the body does not understand how to process. So, it just ends up floating around the blood stream. However, olive oil is almost all natural, and the body does know what to do with it. Believe me.... olive oil is better for you.

It does help. However you still need to limit the amount of frying you do. I completely cut out frying. I bake now. It is not that bad. I am from the South so fried is our way. I treat myself out to fried chicken once in a blue moon. I do not keep oil in my house. Then I don't cook with it.

yes it will. olive oil is very good for you, and your skin :)

I have heard olive oil is better for you than vegetable oil, plus it just tastes better (my own experience). I've also heard olive oil is more natural than vegetable oil. I never even touch vegetable oil I don't even use shortening for anything either.

no it doesnt really make a difference, olive oil has positive health benefits when it is eaten raw when it is cooked those benefits are lost. try carotine oil or use fry light (spray low cal oil) other than that the best thing i can suggest is get a good non-stick frying pan and dont use any oil at all, known as dry frying, or of course you can grill... good luck

Get Canola oil for frying foods and for mixing in baked goods. Use extra virgin olive oil for dipping bread it (IT TASTES BETTER THAN BUTTER) or to make a nice 'vinaigrette' salad dressing (use Balsamic oil and it's even better tasting) ... use 'regular olive oil' only occasionally, since the flavor isn't as noticeable, but CANOLA is better for cholesterol control than olive oil, generally, because it can be heated to a higher temperature than the olive oil.

Yes it will help

Yeah ! it will help little bit. Olive oil has many benefits indeed but you need to spend you time other thing too such as:
- Excercise to burn you fats
- Limit food intake and restrict it to healthy food such as vegetables and fruits.
- Try FLEX seeds it's really good to lower chelsorol level in your body. A very natural way to help reduce body fats.
- Do not take red meat at all
- If you like chicken then make sure it does not has skin on it and remove all fats.
- Fish is also very good for you.

P.S. Canola oil is healthier than olive oil. Studies say.

I hope it will help a little bit
Regards

It should help, as olive oil is a good source of Omega 3, and is a "good" fat. You can also use safflower, sunflower, and/or walnut oil.

I had come across a few sites that I thought I had bookmarked, but guess I didn't and can't find that enumerate the vitamins and minerals essential to good cholesterol health -- Vitamin C and E being two of them -- and since I upped my Vitamin C to 6,000 mg day and take a 400mg E supplement, I have had remarkable improvement with my cholesterol -- I was already a vegetarian, so cutting out meat is not always the cure-all.

Just do a Google on "natural cholesterol remedies" and you will find a number of sites that will give you helpful vitamin and nutrition information for reducing cholesterol naturally, and improving overall heart health.

Olive oil, by the way, is considered natures miracle oil. Not only is it good for you inside, it is good for you outside (makes a wonderful moisturizer and your hair nice and glossy!)

And, make sure it is EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil, not Virgin or regular -- those are heavy and muddy.

Never cook anything in olive oil It is 100 % fat(80% mono, 17% poly and 3% saturated) so it is good for you AT ROOM TEMPERATURE BUT HEAT CHNGES ITS MOLECULAR STRUCTURE AND MAKES IT RANCID. Especially do not re=use olive oil if you HAVE already cooked with it.

Happy, Olive Oil is one of the best oils, but you have to use only a small amount. Go talk to the Doctor or specialist to get the facts. I know that it's good for you, but being a man I don't know how to use it to cook with. I hope you succeed. GOOD NIGHT ! Jimmy.
