How many calories a day do I need to eat?!

Question: I am female, 35 years, 5 foot 8 Inches tall, currently weigh 118.

I was thinking if I added a few hundred calories a day to my diet I would be able to put on some weight.....and then it occured to me that I dont even know how many I should be eating in the first place...

Anyone know?

Thanks a bunch all

That all depends on whether you lead a sedentary or active lifestyle. Sedentary is no exercise while active is a lifestyle that includes the equivalent of walking 3 miles per day at 3-4 miles per hour in addition to the light day-to-day physical activity. Enough physical activity is 60-90 min. of moderate to vigorous physical activity daily.

Men with sedentary lifestyles should not consume more than 1,800-2,200 calories per day. Men with Active lifestyles should consume 2,600-3,200 calories per day. And moderate lifestyles should be somewhere in between to lose or maintain weight. Age has a lot to do with caloric intake as well. Very young(11-13) or old (51+) men should take in less calories than middle age men. The same for women.

Sedentary women should consume 1,600-1,800 calories per day whereas active women should consume 2,200-2,400 calories per day.

It all depends on exercise and from which foods you take in those calories.
I guess if you want to GAIN weight you should eat as an active woman, 2,400 calories per day. But make sure that you keep exercising atleast 30 min. a day and get most of your calories from healthy foods. Eat eggs and use butter instead of margarine. Drink Whole milk and eat more meats like chicken and some pork. Try to stay healthy as you gain some weight.

2000! =)

2000 i guess

around 2000 calories is a safe enough figure to not be obsessive.

My brother was very skinny and desperately wanted to gain a bit of weight. He was advised to gain as much lean muscle as possible so he didn't just end up flabby. So lots of lean, healthy protein (couple of steaks a week, lean chicken and tuna/fish) and good carbs (like basmati rice and wholemeal bread) and don't forget to keep up the healthy oils when cooking.

Be healthy while your gaining the weight otherwise you'll put a lot of stress on your body and get sick.

see, i've heard it's 1600 for girls and 3200 for boys. 2000 is an average. if you want to gain weight, eat protein.

well i needed to gain weight and i ate roughly 3000-3500 to do so
hope this helps xxxxx
