Am I a little dehydrated?!

Question: I don't drink a lot of fluids and I've had spells a few years back when I got slightly dehydrated. I'm trying to drink more water, but was wondering if drinking a little gatorade would also help. I've had some headaches the past couple of days. I've also started to work out in the mornings. Would it be beneficial to drink gatorade before/after my workout to prevent acute dehydration?

Anything that replaces electolytes (Sodium, Potassium and Chloride) will help stop dehydration. Watch out for the sugar content though. You can't beat pure fresh water, which is what your body is craving. Water is needed for every part of the body from the cells, to the brain. Try squeezing some orange, lemon or lime into the water to make it taste. Herbal teas are another option. There are so many on the market now that it's hard to choose.

yes it replaces electrolytes. another thing you can do is take a multivitamin every day. It might reduce the headaches.

Yes Gatorade would help....Drinking any fluid would be better than nothing since it all has some variance of water content in it....but you should try to drink at least two full pint glasses of water per day at least.

yeah it would help a lot

the rule used to be drink 8 of 8 in a day. that is 8 , 8oz of water in a day. it is a good guide to go by. drink when you are thirsty . anything counts as a fluid except soda and coffee. everything else is good. gatorade will help w/ electrolytes like potassium, magnesium and sodium and such.

Drinking gatorade might be ok, but I recommend water. The main reason is sugar content...gatorade is loaded with sugar and unless you're an athlete (or trying to gain weight) you don't need all those extra calories. If you need something besides water, try Propel. It's made by gatorade but has way less calories (i.e. only ~10/serving). It's fitness water (basically flavored water with vitamins, electrolytes, etc.)
