Is it ok to exercise when you're sick?!

Question: Moderate exercise when slightly run-down is okay, but when experiencing asthma, bronchitis or pneumonia - the breathing is what matters. Your body needs rest sometimes. You will know when it makes you feel run down. Stay warm, hydrated, and strong. Have a healthy and happy leap year!

I don't see why not, but if you're truly sick, why would you want to?

no, when you are ill your body is already taxed, trying to fight the infection, you do it no favors by taxing it even more with exercise. Illness is a time to rest as much as possible to support your body in fighting it.

Well it depends on how sick you are or what you have. If you have a basic cold exercising could actually help. If you have the flu with body aches and a fever, etc you shouldn't exercise.

exercising when you are sick will only prolong the time that it takes to make a full recovery from illness...

I am a dancer and asked my Dr. this. He told me if your temperature is under 100 degrees it is O.K.

no, that wy the doctors "say rest for a couple days" not "exercise for a couple of days"!

Hum- Im sick right now and I've gone to the gym all week. Im sure I need to stop and rest but if I dont workout I feel like a waste all day.

I would say- if you go... Clean everything after you have touched it!

theres nothing wrong with it

It is advisable not to as your body needs all the energy it has to fight off the infection.

I exercise all the time when I am sick, it is just harder to get all the way through but you should be fine. I know that it is not a good idea to but I dont want to miss any days of working out because I am afraid of falling behind. My advice to you is just do some sort of a workout that is not to hard on you but good enough so that you still stay in exercise mode so when you get better you can go back to what you do.

it is ok it will actually help your body if you stay active and make it heal faster with antibiotics.

Yes, but it depends on the illness. If you have any trouble breathing normally, you shouldn't exercise. The usual guideline says you should avoid exercising when you have an illness any place besides just your head (like a stuffy nose or a "head cold").
