Is walking a good way to lose weight?!


Question: I walk 45 minutes when I get up at 1pm then walk 45 minutes in the evening around 5:30. Is this good? Im 261 pounds and 16 years old. I have a huge stomach, when I sit down it sticks out. When I stand up it goes in. When im sitting, it makes me look bigger than what I really am lol..

I drink tons of water! Should I go to bed earlier? Maybe 10pm and get up 8am? I try to eat more vegetables at dinner. I also stopped overeating. I dont want to eat 5 small meals during the day. My brother walked one summer and lost tons of weight! and has kept it off.

Will walking make me lose weight for 90 minutes a day? Im getting a treadmill next week.

Way to go Ryan on starting to walk! Keep up the walking - go as fast as you can, but try to walk everyday. In Jan of last year I weight 283lbs with a tight 44" waist- today I weight 183lbs & wear a size 34" pants & I have lost 100 lbs in 13 months. To curb my munching at night I used the all natural Herb Hoodia which really helped with the late night snacking. I started eating salad each weekday at lunch (and I hated lettuce!), but after a couple weeks or so the salad tasted pretty darn good. (Fat free dressing). Between eating better, cutting down on the snacking, and walking the weight came off pretty easy at first. So after a few weeks I did not need the Hoodia, I digging the weight dropping. I started walking on my am and pm work breaks, and then I added a 30 minute walk during my lunch hour. And added weekend walks. Again, I go as fast as I can walk - an Ipod with tunes helps. Try weight watchers ice cream, Men's Health Magazine, weighing yourself at least 3 times a week. If I can do it, you can to. Keep it up and good luck.

Walking is a great way to get moving and lose weight. Make sure you watch how much bad fats you are eating, and eat plenty of lean protein because this will fill you up and keep you full. Also try and limit processed foods.
More normal sleeping hours are probably a good idea too. 10pm bed sounds good.

Yes, it is the safest way to lose weight

In addition to your walking, eat lots of fruit & veggies, whole grains, lean protein, low fat dairy, lots of water. Watch your portion sizes. Good Luck!!

well any form of exercise (so long as it is healthy and done correctly) is great. obviously walking is a good idea because you can increase your heart rate and speed up the metabolism and thus help burn calories quicker. if you want, maybe try some light jogging with your walk each morning. it's one thing to burn carbs but you want to burn calories, too. also, a healthy diet is essential to any exercise program and lifestyle. best of luck.

walking is good, at least you are getting some exercise but i dont think its going to get your body the way you want it too. also eating healthy foods which sounds like you are doing already is good. i would recommend something with a little higher intensity than just walking. i would try jogging for at least an hour a day 7 days a week. if at all possible join a gym ans start strength training. toning up and gaining muscle is one of the best ways to burn fat. more muscle = a higher metabolism. if you cant join a gym then i would suggest you go buy a barbell and some dumbells to use. i know this sounds like alot but if your dedicated and stick to it you will see results

No. Walking works your hart. But it does nothing to actually help you loose weight. Jogging On the other hand will. Alot of people do get confused jogging with walking though. If anything though be sure it is Brisk walking.

Again One of the best ways to loose weight is to dance your butt off. Find a partner and just go at it. In your home/At a club. Anywhere.!

One thing that scares me is when you talk about drinking tons of water. Water can actually kill you. If you drink to much of it.
Might i suggest when ever you get thirsty to drink water. Or something with electrolytes when you are working out.

Wow. That's great all the changes that you have made!!! Keep it up and you will see the results on the scale. I've been working out too and the scale hasn't budge either but I've noticed a difference in my legs and I know in time the weight will come off!! Keep it up!!!

Weight loss is a tricky topic. Lots of people are unhappy with their present weight, but most aren't sure how to

change it - and many would be better off staying where they are. You may want to look like the models or actors in

magazines and on TV, but those goals might not be healthy or realistic for you. Besides, no magical diet or pill will

make you look like someone else.
