How can I temporarily improve my reaction time and focus?!

Question: Hey all! I have a question to ask if you all wouldn't mind :) I'm currently preparing to play in this huge online gaming tournament. I know I'm capable of winning, as I'm seeded #1 and am familiar with the other core players. However, I seem to have a problem with nerves and staying alert when the official match starts. It's so wierd ;/ It's like I'm not even the same player. I can't think straight! My mind just sorta drifts into this blank mindless void. What should I do health wise to improve my reaction time and focus? Fellow players told me that they consume those Monster Energy drinks. However, I was always afraid that they will hinder my precision, as these games require precise hand-eye coordination: First-Person Shooters.

Any ideas and how I can prepare? What should I eat? What should I drink? Are there any mind trick exercises?

Thanks!

Caffeine has been documented to enhance hand eye coordination. A cup of coffee before and during your match will help with your precision. Try it in your practise sessions before competition to see how it will effect you.

Make sure you are well rested and eat a moderate size meal 2-3 hours before your match. A breakfast containing plenty of lean protein and some carbs is ideal. Protein is essential for alertness. You might want an omelet or a protein shake with some fruit or juice.

One other thing is to engage in some aerobic activity to enhance oxygenation to your brain. Jog a mile or so each morning leading up to your competition.

Good luck!
