How can I stop eating bad/sugary foods?!

Question: im 17, and im not overweight. infact im quite skinny...
i want to be healthy and fit, so i want to cut out all the bad food i eat, which sometimes can be quite a lot in a day.
It's the sugar that i need!! chocolate bars, fizzy drinks etc it all has loads of sugar and when i dont eat any for a day, the next day i crave it and have to have some!

also, i do eat some healthy food too.
So how can i give it all up? if i didnt have any for a week would the craving for sugar go away? its all about will power right? as i type i'm drinking a can of coke right now...

You crave sugar because when you eat it, the amount in your bloodstream jumps. But your body metabolizes it quickly, so the blood sugar level falls off in a hurry. This makes you want more, and so you eat/drink more, and you yo-yo up and down on this crazy dance.

To quit, you have to substitute something else. Instead of drinking coke, drink water. Instead of candy, cookies, etc, eat some fruit. Don't worry if you have 6-7 apples, oranges, or whatever - you're satisfying your urge to eat, without spiking your blood sugar levels. Within 2 days, your urge for sugar should be gone, and you can settle down to eating a normal, healthier diet without candy, pop, and all that stuff.

If you just gotta have a can of coke for the caffeine, then go for a diet coke.

replace the bad foods with good alternatives. instead of sugary food, eat fruit which has natural sugars. instead of soda, drink water or crystal light, it will hydrate you better, and make you feel fuller. Doing this will trick your mind, and hopefully you won't miss those unhealthy foods!

Replace them with yummy healthy foods like -
strawberries with cottage cheese
light yogurt with granola
mango or apples with natural peanut butter
replace white bread/cereals/pasta with whole grains like
try eating a whole grain muffin with some natural peanut butter for breakfast and some fruit
or try making a chicken salad - cherry tomatoes, romaine lettuce, avacado, fat free croutons, chicken, red/white onion, pepper and vinager - YUMMY!
Replace soda with fresh water or try eating trail mix in moderation!
Healthy foods are yummy too!

i read in fitness that brushing your teeth reduces surgar cravings because of the sweet minty taste

Well you dont have to give them up just cut back on them. ont eat them everyday and when you do eat them just have a little of it. I am the same way so I get what you mean when you crave them. I eat raisens a lot they are sweet and have natural sugar on them which is really sweet to me kinda like candy. Anyway I hope that helps a little good luck take care bye ^.^
