The best way is to stop purchasing their products, and encourage other to do the same. Some companies are already reacting to this strategy. Cracker companies are more and more moving to using soy or even olive oil in their products, instead of the hydrogenated oils.

I think that the bottom line i changing the practices of food companies is...well, the bottom line. If they begin to see sales drop on their products that re least healthy, then I think they will get the message and make changes.

If you are writing a book, perhaps suggesting to your readers that they avoid buying such products, and that they also write to the companies and tell them WHY they are not buying. If you wanted to make a dent yourself, provide people with a form letter they can use that would :

a) request the company stop using those ingredients
b) let them know that they will stop buying their product until they do so
c) let them know that you they are sad about it, because otherwise, they enjoy the product, and would like to use it again, once it is healthier.

If your book had that in it, people could just copy it and send them off...and then it would be recognizable to the companies where it came from. Include in your book a lsit of companies and thier contact information (Physical addresses work best, but even email would do) so people can easily send the information off. It would be a lot of work to pull together, but it might be worth it if people used it. Just a thought. Good luck.

That's processed food companies for you. They know that trans fats are dangerous and are cutting down on using them, but good luck trying to convince them to stop using other preservatives.

You can write and/or email them but in the end the best thing you can do is not buy their products. MONEY and the "bottom line" always get through to companies when nothing else does.

Well, one way is with your pocket book or bill fold.

I read labels and do NOT purchase high fructose corn syrup or items with added salt... this means I must cook from 'scratch'.

So be sure to add sodium/salt to the list of over used and abused preservatives in commercially prepared foods in your book.

either learn to cook or stop complaining
