That is a very good question. I'll try to answer it, with a link.

There are two normal sources of energy. Stored fat and carbohydrates. Stored fat is burned slowly and requires oxygen. Carbs are burned fast and don't require oxygen.

If the exercise you're doing stimulates rapid breathing, than you're running an oxygen deficit and burning more carbs. Harder the breathing, more carbs, more calories. Cycling, running, competitive swimming, and intense lifting would fall in this category.

Walking, casual swimming, slow cycling, light jogging where breathing is pretty normal means you're burning more fat than carbs, and less cals/hour.

You're always burning both, but the ratio changes with the intensity of the exercise.

So, while lifting, you're you burning more carbs. While walking on the treadmill, you're burning more fat.

I'm pretty sure all this is within the realm of truth. I cycle a lot and have a carb snack about every hour to keep my energy level up. If I don't I "zonk" because I can't burn the fat fast enough.

Hope this helps. Sorry it took so long, but I was answering the question for myself as well as you.

ur body uses ur fat for energy is theres nothing left in ur stomache.,.....your stomache always needs food thats a fact...if u have no food whats the next eating sourse? the fat

When you have not eaten anything and maybe when you are sick also!

The absolute LAST thing you want to do is to burn fat in a workout. This teaches your body to store fat...since it had to resort to burning fat to keep going...

What you want to do is to burn up your stored carbs...20 minutes of strenuous activity will do this. Then your body will convert FAT to CARBS and you will lose fat.

So work out for 20 minutes at a time. You can do this three times a day, evenly spaced.

Also, to lose weight, stop eating at 7PM. You will burn calories all night long, also keep your room cold, you will burn more calories to keep your body temperature.

Eat protein before working out to gain muscle.

Drink lots of water.
