Does Lifting Dumbbells Stunt your growth?!

Question: Yo. I'm 14. I run a lot. And I mean A Lot. About 3 miles every day. Anyways i also have a good diet. I'm 5'8. And I'm worried about dumbbells. I have 1 dumbbell and its 10 pounds. So I do about 2 sets of 50 reps. With both arms. Is that ok? I'm worried it will stunt my growth. But its only 10 pounds so I don't think so. But I'm not 100% sure.

Anyways I do workout every muscle group there is. And I need to get stronger.

stress you body.. it is adaptive

It is possible that by lifting weights you may cause your testosterone to spike earlier than it should causing your growth plates to fuse shut early. Speak with your family doc and see what he has to say.

Edit:
I tried to find some proof one way or the other but all I could really find was a brief write up about how lifting incorrectly could stunt your growth. That is the first link the second is some additional information.

lifting weights doesn't stunt anyone's group. it stimulates muscle growth. anything that would stunt your growth would have to stop your skeletal growth and thats not likely. Crystal Meth on the other hand WILL stunt a teens growth by destroying bones, nerves and muscles.

It's safe for you to work out. The weights you are using are not extremely heavy, so you aren't stressing your body too much. However, you don't need to do heavy lifting. Your body is still growing and developing. Your bones continue to grow, and your growth plates have not fully fused yet. As long as you lift under the supervision of an experienced trainer/coach, you can lift weights.

You are about at the right age to lift weights. 14 and 15 is the right age to begin lifting, but be careful and only lift if there is someone there to spot you. This applies to dumbbells and bench press because if you do weight that you can't handle or your arms are too tired, you can hurt yourself. You shouldn't worry about weight training stunting your growth as it won't since you are about the right age to start lifting.

If I were you? Totally a NO. NO double dumbells while in standing position. I'm 16 and nearly 5'11, and when i was around 14+ I tried to lift weights for a month or so like your self and it stunted my growth by abit. Doctors claimed when i was young that i would grow up to 6 foot or more but now here's the proof. And yes, i did the weights under proper supervision.

Currently, I'm still not doing any standing dumbbells or anything. I just do it while in a seated or sleeping on bench positions. Seriously, wait till your growth starts to stop like 18. For now, just take it easy and try not to lift heavy stuff standing.

Don't worry, the dumbbells are light and the number of reps you can do attests to that. You will not harm yourself. I would recommend that you learn functional strength exercises that can be performed with dumbbells, for example corkscrews, core rows, dumbbell snatch and clean and press, for example. Keep going with the running. When I was much younger, I ran as much as 80 miles per week and I lifted weights, both barbell and dumbbell, extensively. I also was a competitive cyclist. Well, I "survived" all of this youthful exuberance, and I still do lots of high intensity cardio and lifting 6 days/week. None of this stunted my growth or compromised my health -- I'm 6'4" and 225 very lean pounds, and I bench 375 and have a resting heart rate of 40 at age 52. Screw all of those ill informed but perhaps well meaning folks who have tried to "save" you. Keep on truckin' and build your physical capacity and resilience; life demands a great deal of both.

10 lbs thats light. It cant harm you.I would say 120 lbs each hand can.
