Severe loss of appetite?!

Question: Yesterday morning after shoveling snow, my parents took me out for lunch at a really good all you can eat sushi restaurant. I hadn't eaten breakfast but ate much less than everyone else. That night I felt too full to eat dinner.

This morning I did my regular workout (I run three miles a day) and I still wasn't hungry at all. It's nearly dinnertime and over 24 hours since my last meal (I've been eating a little bit of veggies and fruit however because I figure I need it), and I'm still just not hungry. Why?

You might lose your appetite because of stress. Decrease in activity may also do the same, but not as much that you wouldn't be hungry for 24 hours. There's also several diseases that may decrease your appetite, but as long as you don't show signs of any of these, there's hopefully no need to worry. However, 24 hours is a very long time without food, so if this continue I would advice you to seek a doctor for further advices, since it's not normal to stop eating for 24 hours. Your body works in a way that it tells you when it's hungry, and this function may vary a bit from day to day, depending on your activity level and what you eat, but it shouldn't vary that much. Easily explained when your body needs food, it reacts by sending messages to your nerve system which transform this into a feeling that makes you feel hungry.

If you manage to I suggest you should start eating close to what you normally do, even you're not hungry.
