How long would it take for me?!

Question: how long will it take me to lose about 40 pounds if i walked at a speed of 3.4 for 30 minutes a day, drink alot of water, cut down my portions, not drinking soda, and eating healthier than i did before (more fruits and vegies) and i will eat better and healthier meals (for example- a chicken salad wrap instead of a cheese burger) how long will it take for me to lose 40 pounds at least?
also- im 14 years old.

Nothing you said was really a bad idea, but if you're 14 years old, you should avoid a mistake a lot of kids your age make, and thats crash dieting. Cutting your calorie intake, lets say, in half, is probably a bad choice. If you are trying to lose weight, you should only eat about 300-500 less calories per day than you are now. 3,500 calories is = to a lbs. of fat. i'm not sure how fit you are right now, but if you walk at a speed of 3.4, it probably won't get your heart rate up to where it needs to be in order to burn fat... to figure out what your heart rate has to be at, the equation is;

Your Weight + Your Age x .60

And in order to burn fat, you want to keep your heart-rate there for at least 30 minutes.

If you're not a strong runner, and you can't keep up that pace for 30 minutes, you can also try doing circuits, in which you sprint for 10 seconds, then walk for 30-45 seconds, and you repeat this for about 25 minutes.

And remember, you dont want to lose too much weight too fast, or else it won't be the right kind of weight. a lot of it will be water weight, or muscle mass. A healthy rate to lose weight is about 2-5lbs per month. So if you dont see results immediately, dont be discouraged, and keep in mind your goal of losing 40 lbs.

that would pretty much keep you from gaining anymore weight...

depends on how much you weigh right now. if you are really heavy you should see noticable changes quickly, however if you are skinny and trying to get skinnier then you have a problem. also, you are young and it should be easier to get into shape.

it will take u 3 years
