MATABOLISM question!!!!?!

Question: I have had tons of trouble loosing weight, my matabolism is SO SLOW!!!! I thought I might have a thyroid problem but I dont.....Thank god, but at the same time it sucks that It's just me that's not loosing weight. My mom says I am in a slump. I work out, try and eat healthy. I just bought some Niacin pills, they "say" they help with energy and speed matabolism. Does it really? I just want to loose weight like I use to, I want to burn off fat, and I dont know how to get my matabolism a kick in the a$$.....Please help.

There are a couple things to do to boost your metabolism: lifting weights and eating several small meals a day.

Lifting weights boosts your metabolism in two ways, by causing your body to burn extra calories for longer after your workout (vs. cardio) and by adding muscle which burns extra calories just by being...

To avoid the gym, just do body weight exercises at home, push ups, pull ups, dips, lunges, squats, pistols (if you're more advanced), leg lifts, etc... It's not sexy like going to the gym, but I've seen a few people get faster results without weights than with.

I've had several clients tell me that they had slow metabolisms, and not counting the one who did have a thyroid problem (he still lose over 100 lbs with me), and let me tell you, the second they changed their diet, that excuse disappeared completely.

You want five to six *small* meals a day (every two hours) and make sure to get extra lean protein (beans, turkey, chicken) and extra fiber (beans, ground flax seed, 100% Whole Wheat Breads and crackers). Avoid High Fructose Corn Syrup like it's the plague, and combined with the right exercise, you'll notice a HUGE difference!

Niacin does give a little boost, but you have to take it so often and so much of it that it's not worth putting up with the flush you get as a side affect (splochy skin, sometimes hives and itchy spots). Actually, I'd stay away from any pills other than a multi-vitamin and multi-mineral. Maybe some extra Vitamin C to help manage free radicals, but only if you're really working out hard.

Combine the HIIT (interval training) with the weight lifting and in six weeks I guarantee that you'll have more energy than you thought possible.

Good Luck!

eat six to eight small snacks throughout the day, not 3 big meals. drink a lot of water, keep exercising...

There are a couple things that could be going on with your metabolism. It's possible you are already at your ideal size now. Sometimes the less weight you have to loose the harder it is to lose it. You should go to www.freetrainers.com the have lots of info for metabolism boosters and exercises you can do at home as well as recipes to fit into your budget.

also, please be careful with the Niacin pills. Our bodies require niacin, but in large doses it's not good for our livers and kidneys... also, don't take it for more than a couple weeks.

Ok the only thing that will speed your metabolism is eating 5-6 times a day (healthy proportions meals of course) and exercise. Eating smaller meals frequently keeps your metabolism going all day, thus burning more fat. Ideally, working out or doing cardio in the morning sets the pace for your metabolism for the day, but doing anything at anytime in the day is better than nothing at all. 5-6 meals a day sounds hard but its not. Eat your small breakfast lunch and dinner meals and just have a protein or Kashi bar in between. Or maybe some yogurt. Count the calories, if you're eating more then 1500 a day you're eating too much to lose any weight. Hope this helps:)
