Which Side of the Road to Run On Up/Down a Hill?!

Question: I understand you're supposed to run opposite traffic if there is no sidewalk, however, whats the rule of thumb on a hill? I usually run against traffic going up a hill but I don't feel too safe with cars zooming down the hill. Would it be better just to run with traffic up a hill since theres gravity to slow a car down more? Just curious and thanks for any good advice =)

I'd suggest you keep running against traffic regardless of the hill. The reason is facing traffic, you can see trouble coming. With traffic to your back - you never know who doesn't see you.

Good question.

:)

I guess it depends on the situation. Is there grass on the side of the road you can run on or maybe a hill that doesn't have a road on it you can use? If you run with traffic and a car goes around you, that car is in the other lane. What happens now if there's a car coming down the hill in that lane that's taken up by the car that's going around you? They'll crash. I'd try finding another hill.

i would have to find somewhere to run that i could do my thing. i switch every time. due to roadcrown, running the same way all the time increases the chances of having problems. i switch directions each time so that i spread out that effect.

Never run with traffic. Unless you have a 6th sense, there is no real good way to know when someone is about to run you down. If you feel unsafe running on a road while facing traffic, you probably shouldn't be running on that road no matter what direction you're facing. Find a road with a wider shoulder, less cars or slower speed limits.
