Calories a day?!


Question: I'm 13 years old, 5'7", and trying to lose about 50 pounds. I need to know how many calories I should be eating a day, and how many I should be burning a day.

I feel most of the people's answers so far are pretty well said.

I would not eat more than 2,000 calories a day. As for burning, it all depends on what you eat that day and how much time you have. You can't put a pin on an exact amount.

As for not having much time, I know that, I'm the same. BUT, do simple things, for 3 months all I did was lift some 20 lbs weights for about 5 min, do 100 crunches, 50 squats. Start out easy, and your body will adjust.

If I would have gone to whole nine yards and added a little cardio, which is as easy as dancing to your favorite 80s song ( ;] ), I could have lost more. Just doing what I did, I lost 15 pounds. It's all about the quality of your work and dedication.

how much do you weigh atm?

You should specify how much you weigh, not one can answer your question properly without knowing that; whether loosing 50 pounds is at all healthy for you.

You need to figure out your BMR. Try this website. It'll tell you how many calories you need in a day.

You should be looking for having an intake of 2000 calories. Dieting at the age of 13 will give you weak bones and stunt your growth. Just do more exercising.

P.s I do not recommend this but if you want to lose 50pounds reducing calories will not help that much as opposed to cutting down on foods high in fat e.g crisps, chocolates, egg yolk, bacon.

You should be eating about 1200 calores a day and burning off about 800. you don't say how much you weigh at your height you should be about 140 if your a boy and 125 if your a girl.

Check out ur BMI ..also ur only 13..ur body is still growing so do NOT go on a diet that could seriously affect you down the line.
Puberty will change everything, and u will have to get used to that.
