How many days a week should I exercise?!

Question: Everyday I do at least 30 fast minutes of running on a treadmill, yesterday I ran for 70 minutes very fast and today im very tired and I dont feel too well, so I never exercised, dont get me wrong its not like i say on my butt all day, I mean I walked around and done a few things like done a few crunches and stuff just I didn't do the treadmill for the first time in ages I usually do it everyday.

Well yeah the question is how many days a week should I run on a treadmill for an hour each day 7 days a week or 5 days a week or 3? whats the right amount?

It depends on your goals.

As another person pointed out, most Americans are far too inactive. Because of cars and fast food and our jobs we don't get as much exercise through daily activities as we did when people had to do work on the farm 100 years ago. So we hang out in gyms or put treadmills in our homes to get the exercise that just came naturally to earlier generations.

From that perspective, running every day is not a bad thing. However, I would really recommend adding in some weight training. The health benefits for women are numerous and the added muscle will keep your metabolism up. You look fantastic, so maybe you are just genetically able to stay slim without a lot of exercise. Some people are blessed that way.

There is nothing wrong with your current routine. I've seen a few people express concerns about overtraining, but I would say your regimen is about right in terms of daily exercise. If you started to hit the weights, I would recommend giving yourself at least 48 hours between weight training sessions for recovery, but if you want to do cardio only on the in-between days, you should be fine. They work your body differently (one focuses on strength and the other on cardio-vascular endurance and health), so overtraining is not much of an issue.

As I've said before, you seem to be in great shape so I wouldn't mess with a good thing. Adding in some weight training just makes common sense from a health and strength perspective, but that's your call. It all depends on how much time you have.

Best of luck!

3 sounds good. If you start running 5-7 days you will overtrain which will lead to exhaustion and injuries (i.e. shin splints). Try doing weights or swimming on days where you don't run.

its like brushing your teeth, how white do you want them? i only run on the weekdays

well if you are working yourself so hard (as it seems you are). 3 days seems to be the right amount. Because i do a 20 min run every other day.

usually 5 days a week for 45 minutes to an hour

This depends on what kind of body shape you are looking to get in to. If you feel that you have a lot of body fat you want to get rid off, you should do cardio from 4-5 days a week. If you also wana get toned, lift some weights: make sure to train only 2 major muscle groups a day. You should be doing around 30 mins on treadmill at 70-80% heart rate. Remember, don't over do any thing, your body needs rest for you to grow and repair itself.

At most 4, you need to give your body time to heal, if you really want to do more do a different kind of cardio so you are not wearing yourself out, what you are doing right now if like trying to drive with no gas. If you really want to do it everyday you need to give your body MORE PROTEIN(especially after the workout) low carb low sugar diet. You need to replenish what you took out of your body with the workout.

as much as ur body can handle, and gradually move up

Many people will respond to this and I am sure that they are going to tell you 5 days a week and that you need to give your body time to recover... True when weight lifting and when not spending time to isolate muscles but not true with running... if you want to take a day off take a day off cause you don't want to hurt yourself... It sounds to me like you didn't get a sufficient fluid intake yesterday and your body is not with you cause of it today or maybe you didn't eat well yesterday. get a good intake of protein and electrolytes today and everyday. As long as you are stretching before and after and warming up properly there is no reason you can't exercise everyday... I Do.

the right amount is as much as you can handle its your body and it will let you know when it cant do any more and it will come to a point of failure.

nice pic haha keepin in shape

at my school we go to the workout with weights 2 or 3 times a week so at least 3 times a week

probably about 4 because you will still be running for the majority of the week and you do not want to over work yourself because then you might be off the treadmill for more than just one day

anyways you should run about 4 days a week

=]

its almost impossible to tell personally i am almost at peak fitness i train 5 hours a day 7 days a week, but someone who is unfit will not be able to train less it really depends on what you want , need.

Every other day, you have to give your body time to repair itself.

i guess 4 :)

People are supposed to do some sort of bodily activity everyday for at least hour. Some things like free weights you don't do every day, but you can do cardio everyday. You should start out for a small amount of time so you don't wear your self out.Than as time proceeds up the amount of time you exercise. You could alternate what you do for exercise so you don't get bored with your doing and can stick with it.

**** if thats really you in that picture i dont think u need to exercise at all.. just keep active =)

At least 30 minutes seven days per week.
Run the tread the same amount of time every day of the week as well.
