Low Carb Diet Advice........Ketone Strips?!

Question: I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on this.......

I've been a very low carb diet for about 2 weeks, which has been going very well. I'm pretty experienced at this, have done low carb on and off for almost 7 years and keep a close watch over my carbs and calories. Drink lots of water and get to the gym daily.

Now, I've been monitoring myself with ketone test strips and since I've started my diet they have all tested postive in the moderate to high range. However, yesterday they started to register as negative, completely out of the blue. And they are negative today!

Yesterday I was busy and ate nothing but two scrambled eggs in the morning......how can this be possible?????

Natalie, I was always in deep ketosis as well. I found sometimes though they were effected by TOM (Time of Month), strenuous exercise and sometimes I used to register trace in the mornings when I was taking a Siberian ginseng supplement.

Plus it is also possible the sticks are faulty as well, but that never happened to me.

The thing is, the sticks only measure EXCESS ketones, meaning you can still be in ketosis and register negative on the sticks. A lot of people don't register or only register trace after doing it for a little while because as your body adjusts it becomes more efficient and thus wastes less ketones.

If you only ate 2 eggs and that was it, then chances are you were simply using up all your ketones for your energy needs as their was no other food coming in.

Unless you have gained a kg or two of water weight over night like you would when you go out of ketosis, then I think it is safe to say everything is fine. :)

you only ate 2 eggs yesterday? your body is prob slowing the metabolism. just bc your in keytosis dosent mean that its not your metabolism driving it. i hope your not the bacon, eggs, and sausage all day kinda low-carber. that diet only works for yo-yoing. ive successuflly lost and regained every time on it. the only diet thats worked and kept working has been low-calorie with moderate carbs. as long as your getting your carbs from vegies and whole grains and not from milkey ways and white bread. that diet eventually stops working. how many ripped up people do you know who eat like that? not any that i know.

since you are experienced i know you did not add ketchup, had too much coffe or diet sodas or had cough syrup...or made a small mistake like that....
i remember you should EAT in this diet-from atkin
