Atkins Experiece's..no haters.?!

Question: I am on Atkins..day 3. My question is this. After I lose the initial weight from 2-3 weeks of induction will I be able to keep the weight off if I switch to a low fat diet? Or will the carbs I consume ruin everything? If so I will go to phase 2. I miss cottage cheese and certain things. But I don't want to be going through all this trouble just to gain it back..which seems to be the consenus opinion if you go off it AT ALL. I was eating low fat before...so I am used to not eating white bread and tons of sweets. I just cannot wait to be able to eat some sort of dessert. Right now I eat sugar free jello and cream cheese with splenda on it.! Just a little though..its like a funny weird cheesecake...LOL!
Anyways..I need to get through these 2 weeks at least..then decide where to go from there...I don't care if my weight slowes after 10-15 lbs lost.>I dont have that much to lose. I just wanted a jump start. I want to lose 34 pounds total..and I go to the gym 4 times per week.

I have been following atkins for 4 months and I have lost 38 so far I agree induction is hard at first but every new thing take time to get used too.. so if you just want to lose 10-15 maybe you can just go straight to phases 3 or 4 where you can eat more carbs (good ones) after induction

atkins website and forums are very helpful too and they have a bunch of recipes posted there too. good luck with whatever you decide =o)

I went on Atkins a while ago and lost a lot of weight.. really does work but not something I could ever be on forever! I love sweets too much. If you go onto a lo fat diet after losing weight just make sure not to overdo it with the calories. You won't gain any weight back unless you eat more than your body is burning. Good luck!!

DONT DO ATKINS ITS UNHEALTHY!!!! no just kidding, ive been on it for 3 weeks now and after the first 2, you have to stick with it but u can let more carbs in, a low fat diet from a low carb diet will confuse your body. honestly i cheat, ill have a peice of candy and it wont affect my weight loss, i was a mess my first 2 weeks bc im addicted to sweets so i mixed cool whip with sugar free jello lol OH and last night i made a float!! diet root beer and frozen vanilla cool whip tastes jUST like a root beer float. after the 2 weeks it will get better u can eat things with a few more carbs than before, just stick with it because u will feel great in the end !!!

I stuck on the Atkins diet and lost about 30 lbs.
Carbs are OK in the latter stages of the diet, but you need to eat the right kind.
I hope you have the book and are not just winging it.
GO BY THE BOOK as to what carbs you may eat SAFELY.
Atkins is a lifestyle. Once you have reached your goal you may switch to maintenance mode. It works if you FOLLOW THE BOOK.

I've done Atkins and several low carb variants. The key to long term success is learning to incorporate "healthy" carbs. By that I mean that I mean organic fruits and vegetables, whole grains (quinoa, millet, spelt, brown basmati rice) , and natural sweeteners like raw honey and agave nector. You have to avoid processed foods and sugars. No sodas, no chips, no white rise, white bread or even store bought wheat bread.

It's easy to learn a lot of bad habits in the early phases on Atkins because you feel you can eat anything as long as it is low carb. This can often lead to you consuming high, unhealthy levels of saturated fat. When you start incorporating some carbs back in your diet, your body may create extreme carb cravings causing a boomerang affect.

Fat is not bad, but long term, you have to eat the right kinds of fats (extra virgin olive and coconut oil, avocados, raw cheeses from goat/sheep, keifer from raw, organic milk).

Below is a maintenance eating plan that works and is sustainable.
- eat grass fed beef, avoid grain fed (fat composition is totally different)
- eat organic chicken, beef or lamb when eating meat
- eat wild caught fish (salmon in particular)

- eat whole, high fiber, natural grains (millet, spelt, quinoa) and avoid processed grains
- eat organic fruits and vegetables
- when consuming dairy, consume organic eggs from free range chickens, eat raw goat/sheep cheeses, consume organic, raw milk products (fat profile is much healthier than all the normal counterparts)
