though it sounds cliche...a healthy, balanced, and well proportioned diet, combined with an active lifestyle, which should include working out, and daily physical activity (such as sports, or walking...) are the safest, and best ways to lose and maintain a healthy weight

Exercise regularly. Eat healthier, but do not cut out the things you love and can't live without! A diet without those things will definitely fail. Change your lifestyle in a way that you enjoy and can sustain. Weight watchers helped me, it's the easiest way to lost weight that I have found! Some tips:
Drink at least 8 glasses of water a day
Exercise at least 1 hr a day
Take a multivitamin
Get enough fiber! (25 grams)-this helps you feel full longer!
