Painful BM?!

Question: In the past 3 weeks or so I have had extremely painful, large bowel movements. I started dieting (you know just cutting back on fats, no fried food, more fruits and veggies, etc. no particular diet plan, just generally healthier). Anyway, it hurts so much to go I have been crying everytime and this never happened till I started the diet. I haven't been eating any more fiber than before. I have lost 22 pounds, would that have anything to do with it? What are some solutions and suggestions.
SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY PLEASE.
-Thanks

What you are experiencing is your body adjusting to the lack of fat in your diet the fats you were consuming were keeping your stool moist and pliable it is now dryer and consequentially harder. The best you can do is try a few dietary tricks to soften it up try the folowing.
Eat more high-fiber foods, which will help prevent constipation. Good sources of fiber include breakfast cereals such as All Bran, Fiber One, Bran Buds, which have approximately 10 grams of fiber per serving. Check the box to be sure. Fresh fruit, beans, prunes, raw or cooked vegetables, especially asparagus, cabbage, carrots, corn, and broccoli, are also good sources of fiber. Try to have 20-30 grams of fiber per day (or more) in your diet.

An alternative source of fiber is psyllium or similar fiber supplement product (Metamucil, Citrucel, Benefiber, etc.) You may need to use more than the amount recommended on the package. Lots of fluid is also necessary for these products to work.

High fiber diet must be adhered to daily, to avoid constipation cycles. The fiber you eat today will not have an effect for 2-3 days.

Fluids

Drink plenty of fluids, especially water. Drink six to eight 8-ounce glasses of fluid without caffeine (not coffee) a day. Fluid helps to soften bowel movements so they are easier to pass. Avoid beverages with alcohol and with caffeine (coffee, pop) that tend to dehydrate you.

Take a minimal doseage of a laxative...or 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

I don't know what is going on to tell you the truth. But, I would recommend that you go talk and see a docter within the next few weeks. He can maybe prescribe some medicine for you. Also try some pepto.

drink more water. also don't force yoyourself to push as you will give urself hemorrhoids which also cause pain while pooing.

I think you are cleaning out and detoxing your system with the new diet. Hate to say this, but it might be a good thing. Give it a few days and if it stays the same or worsens, see a doctor.

Has your pattern changed? That may account for why they are larger. If you have cut out the good fats as well as the bad, that may account for some of the pain. Good fats include olive oil, almonds, peanuts (peanut oil), macadamia nuts and canola oil (so I understand).

more fibre will help, not make it worse. Try eating more fruits and veggies which are high in fibre. It should make your number twos a lot softer.

more fiber, more water. the fat & grease you used to eat may have helped things along. now that you don't have that, you need to eat more fiber(the best) or take a fiber supplement. you could also take colace stool softener only-not the one with the laxative to help you for a few days until you can get the fiber regularly into your system.

Are you eating foods with sugar or fat substitutes? Sometimes those have a laxative effect. I had a couple of low-fat chocolates once and was in pain for two days. Also, if you're eating more fruit, you are taking in more fiber. I would still see your doctor if you're in pain. Feel better!

Are you drinking enough water?
Reason I'm asking is, most of the time, constipation can be caused by lack of fluids. The more water that you drink, the easier it is to have a BM because it contains more water, which makes it easier to go.
I'm not a physician, so I don't know the solution...you may want to ask your doctor for a second opinion and make him aware of the diet you're on. It may be something that you're eating too much of or something like that.

Some more fiber in your diet would help alot because fiber helps regulate your digestion, or try some of that yogurt that states that it will help healthy digestion, there is also a vitamins, they will give you additional nutrients that you may not be getting in your diet.

Please excuse my English, not my primary language. I have read what you stated in your question, and "more fruits and veggies, are natural fiber. (You really need to drink at least two liters of water per day). You don't state how much H2o that you drink per day.

You stated that "this never happened till I started the diet". (I can see no correlation between what you have written and the relationship to painful BM)

My advise is that you see your own personal doctor to R/O. (Rule Out), Finally, painful bowel movements may stem from an obstruction of the rectum or anus due to cancer or other growths. So, it is important that doctors perform a digital rectal examination in patients suffering from severe or chronic pain while moving their bowels. If no obvious cause for pain is found, then it is prudent to perform an endoscopic exam to fully evaluate the rectum and sigmoid colon to rule out an obstructing mass.

You don't mention the sight of any blood in your stool that is visible. You may wish to take a stool specimen to your doctor for testing. I don't know what country that you reside in, where I reside it is not necessary for an individual to obtain an Rx. for a lab. test. You can take your own specimen to the lab, if you are able to read the results. (If you reside in the United States, I think that the lab., will ask you to obtain an Rx. from your doctor for the test for blood in your stool.

You can take natural "Psyllium Fiber, Mugasin Payllium Plantago or any over the counter natural fiber mixed with water according to the instructions on the label. Sorry if you are in the United States I don't know the name of your products, but I am sure that you know or your pharmacy will know what I am talking about.

Again I don't recommend that you even take natural fiber with water, because if you have a medical problem, this can only lead to further the problem should one be found.

Again, I sincere advise you to at least check with your own personal doctor first before you do any thing recommend. The two liters of water is moisture and can do you no harm.

Myself I drink three liters of water per day.

Mind Doctor, France

Perhaps you are taking prescription medication, check the label, drink more water, and add more fiber, see your doctor immediately, hemorrhoids are a drag, and do not push so hard to get the BM out......good luck, sincerely hahunter
