Why am I getting so tired after running while on my period?!

Question: So, I've been training for my first marathon since January and every day I can really feel myself getting better and better. However, since I started my period, I've noticed a huge difference. One point, I got very winded going uphill and felt like I would vomit. My father suggested that I drink a little more water before I go running, and that seemed to help until today when it happened again. While training, I've been on a calorie counting diet, and eat complex carbs and as my weekly milage has increased (Right now, I am running about 15-18 miles a week) I've been adding more calories and carbs to my diet. I drink plently of water, and as I've read in books...I've been practicing my water amount also. So since I've been losing energy, I figured I should probably add more carbs into my diet. This doesn't seem to be working. I am in need of suggestions.

You could be anemic, which is very common for a lot of girls who are on their period. Each extra servings of iron rich foods such as spinach, lentils, canned beans, pumpkin seeds, and whole grains. A daily tablespoonful of molasses is an excellent way to add a good amount of calcium and iron to your diet as well.

Meat has iron in it to, but being vegetarian, I can't really tell you which meats have the best source.

Have you checked your iron levels?

When i'm menstruating I tend to have iron deficiency issues (along with being anemic) because of the blood loss happening.

That may be your issue.

cause you are losing lots and lots of fluid
