Should I workout before or after dinner?!


Question: So, either I workout right when I get home from work, shower, make and eat dinner, relax, then go to bed.
Or I come home from work, make and have dinner, relax for about an hour or two, workout, shower, then go to bed.

Which is better for me and why?

definitely before you eat dinner - It takes several hrs for your body to digest and absorb the food that you just ate. You want you stomach empty (or nearly empty) while working out. If your workouts are intense you could even experience some degree of nausea if you've just eaten. Also, you want the blood to be pumping nutrients to your muscle fibers and not working to help complete digestion. Furthermore, by eating after your working you will further aid in muscle recovery. Glycogen (sugar) stores in muscle tissue are low after a workout and immunity is decreased leaving you susceptible to illness. You want to replenish glycogen stores asap and this also speeds your bodies recovery time from an intense workout.

If you are hungry and need an energy boost pre-workout eat just a small about before hand - a small banana or a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or yogurt with a glass of water.

I agree...before eating would be best...depending on when your last meal was.

After dinner however wait about an hour. This is because your food needs to digest, and trust me if your gonna work right after you eat get a bucket ready bc you'll throw up

Working out in the morning is probably the best for your body. If you don't do that it depends on what your workout is. If you are lifting weights and not really running I suggest eating first, but if you are just running then I would say to workout and then eat dinner.

After. My opinion is that you will just binge if you do before b/c you will be hungry.

Dont' work out before going to bed, because you will have a hard time sleeping, as working out will give your body an adrenalin boost. Workout right after work and spend the evening winding down.

It really depends. If you eat then go work out, this is not good for your body, as your body will still be digesting your dinner.

If you are able to, have a light snack in the afternoon before you go to the gym.
