How much cardio do I need to do to lose weight?!

Question: I'm 6'3 260 and need to lose 30 lbs or so....anyway I find myself going to the gym for a month or two getting to my ideal weight and putting it back on after I get burned out from the gym. What is a realistic amount of cardio to do per week to lose weight and keep it off? And eating habbits if you have any ideas....Thank you

As one of the above answers said, you should be taking in at least 2000 calories/day at your size, and your target heart rate range should be around 120-140 or 150. Don't let it go above 180, ever. In addition to that, you should be doing this for 30-60 minutes per day to lose weight and maintain the loss. As long as you're doing at least 4 hours per week, spread out across the week, you should be fine.

Good luck.

I am a gym trainer

Best bet is to talk to a fitness instructor at your gym. With cardio its not about how long you do it, but the intensity you do it at. To burn fat you need to raise your heart rate to about 120-140. Anymore than that you're training fitness, which isnt a bad thing, but you wont be able to do as much.

As for eating you have to eat 2000-2500 calories a day to survive and then the workouts you do will start burning your excess weight.

Its going to take time and patience so dont give up if you dont see results instantly! Good luck!

I found this way helpful and fast.

Jog for 3-4 km under extremely hot sun on alternate days. It will burn your fats faster than if you jog in the evenings.

Great post! I totally understand how you feel. I'm also trying to lose weight and I found this great product which is working for me (it's all 100% natural - a colon cleanse that was really gentle on my body. I feel so good and I lost 15 pounds). You can check the website at
