Is it okay to run a mile a day?!

Question: Recently, I've decided to run a mile a day. I heard that running every day can make your muscles actually tighten up and that it's better to go every other day.

So what is the truth about it?

competitive runners can typically run up to 5 - 6 days a week. as long as your body adjusts to the workout and can handle running high mileages per week, several days in a row won't do much harm if any as long as you take at least a day or two off on the weekends. when i ran cross country, i was running at least 5 miles a day, 5 days a week for an average of about 25 miles a week and nothing ever happened to me. i'm not saying go to that extreme, but your body can definitely handle the mileage if you build it up to withstand the punishment.

Take it every other day for the first couple of weeks. Then just kick up the amount of mileage after that. Don't keep running consistently every day if you want the best results possible.

i would say every other day and drink plenty of water. =] your muscles do need breaks..

Go for it!

Depends on age and fitness level. But pretty well anyone without some medical condition should be able to run a mile a day no problem. In fact it would fall way short of minimal recommended exercise (even a glacial 10minute/mile pace would mean you only get 10 out of the 30-60minute recommended exercises).

But, 1 mile is a great start.

Yes, it's fine. A mile isn't exactly a lot.
