Muscle loss?!

Question: a few weeks ago i was benching about 215 max. I then did'nt bench for about a week and a half, but still did other exersises. But when i went back to bench i could only do about 185 max!!
Could i lose that much muscle in that short of time??

I've had that happen to me lots of times in the past.
There are many factors out there to why this particular situation could happen. Some of them could be lack of stretching before lifting, could even be nutrition wise, or even mentally.

Look back on that particular day when you maxed 215. Remember what you ate, drank, or even maybe something that motivated you into getting into a mindset of wanting to lift hard.

It was probably one of "those days" usually if you're giving your muscles time to relax and heal, you go back stronger and stronger each time. Now if it was for months without lifting that bench then yes you are more prone to losing that strength and muscles. I wouldn't be worried though a week and a half is not that bad. You should be back up there soon. Have a friend spot you or pretend to "spot" you to boost your ego. Helped for me..I would be benching and once and on those last few reps, I would see my friend helping me but in reality he didn't even help at all. Therefore I had the benefit to congratulate myself and eventually will lead on to progress and you know what that means..plates will keep coming and coming!

Good luck and happy lifting!

Use it or lose it.

No you didn't i dont think if you had a cold or flu that could of dne it also if ur maxing out dont bench that week just warm up then do ur max thanks hope this helped

Sort of. I mean, you lost strength, not actual muscle. The muscle just hasn't been working for a while, you WILL have to work back up to 215, but it won't take nearly as long as it did when you first started. Just up it 5 pounds or so once or twice a week. You should be alright.

I don't think u lost muscle just because u can't bench 215 lbs anymore. What happened is u lost strength which is normal if u haven't been benching for a while.

Yes,it depends on the amount exercise your doing.are you eating healthy? A balance diet is a must to keep your muscles.
and keep exercising!
