Is applesauce as healthy as apples?!

Question: We all know an apple a day keeps the doc away. How about a cup of applesauce a day?

If the applesauce is made without salt, without sugar, and includes peel, then yes, nutritionally they're about the same. The applesauce is denser, so a cup of applesauce has more calories (about 105) than a medium apple (80-85, depending on variety).

It's *extremely* easy to make your own applesauce, BTW, so you can control what goes into it.

It's not bad, but they add stuff to it. Nothing is ever as good as the actual fruit.

Its cooked, so I am sure it loses some of the original nutrients you would get from an apple a day. However, pediatricians recommend applesauce as part of your diet when you have had the flu and diarrhea. So, yes I would say its healthy too.

I like to make mine with Red hots candy. mmm good.

The whole food is always best but 100% applesauce with NO SUGAR is also pretty good for you! I also love adding a little 100% apple juice concentrate and cinnamon and heating it up and putting it on top of my whole wheat waffles or pancakes...YUM!

get organic kind.

No, all the good stuff is in the skin. Also, they add a lot of preservatives and sugar to those things.

Always opt for fresh fruit. You'll get a lot more fiber. Apples, like celery, are actually negative in calories. A medium one has about 84 calories, but it takes 99% engery to digest it.
