Is This True or Not? FREE 10 POINTS!!!!?!

Question: Okay I read something earlier and I want to see if anyone has a good opion on it to give me a feel.

Anyway someone told me it's impossible to loose weight if you ate random junk assortment, and still do exercise. What do you think? I don't think so because I've weighed exactly the same and eat what ever sits in front of me and doesn't move fast enough to not get aten. I am 190, and 15 and in awesome shape. I think age has something to with it and how intense you are when you exercise..

false...its not impossible but its not healthy
its all about calorie intake, it doesnt matter where the calories come from...if ur expending more than consuming than u lose weight, if consume and expend evenly, u stay the same, if you consume more than expend, u gain...ur body doesnt care where the calories come from, it works the same way

however, in the long run, ur gonna have a weight problem down the line and ur body is going to get damaged...it needs nutrients from proper food, junk food is not going to keep you athletic, ur yougn, u can get away with it, but it wont last...if junk food is not a staple in ur diet, then moderation is fine but if its a staple, id suggest fixing it now before its difficult to do later on

the other thing too is junk food is calorie dense...a big mac is worth about a whole day's worth of calories for an average dieter
whereas a cup of spinach contains around 20 calories...you can fill ur body up with tons of healthy food for the calorie mass of one big mac or bag of chips etc...
so if u have a junk food diet, and ur expenditure changes in any way, ie u stop playing a sport for a while etc...that weight is gonna pile on

FALSe... i am 111 lbs and am 5'8... i eat junk all the time...and excersize, and in a month lost 7 lbs....

it all depends on how much junk food

and how much exercise

Well it depends on the person's metabolism whether what they eat affects them or not... If you have a high metabolism you can more of a variety of things and as long as you're active you won't see a physical change..people that have lo metabolisms struggle with what they eat because the body takes longer to process what they've eaten and they store the bad things in it...especially if they're not as active. It all depends on metabolism...in theory u can eat whatever u want in moderation.

losing weight is just the amount of calories you burn off when you exercise.
so if you burn off the amount of calories that you eat with junk food, then you don't gain as much.

At your age, it is not surprising that that happened to you. However, by the time you reach 30, that magic will be gone. So you are better off to get healthy eating habits now.

thats false. unless you have a really good metabolism. but if you have more then like a certain amount of calories you gain weight. and it takes 12 hours for your body to start eating off its fat storages.

Whether you gain, lose, or maintain weight depends on a NUMBER of factors:

1) Youre genetic pre-disposition to gain, lose, or maintain weight. And there is nothing you can do about the DNA programming of your cells. This affect things such as:
a) How efficiently you assimilate the food you eat. If you poop it all out, you can eat a ton, with no trouble. If you assimilate 90% of what you eat, well that is a different issue!
b) How efficiently you burn the calories you consume. Do you burn them all off (ie: nervous type), or do you turn them all to fat (ie: sedentary, laid-back, calm type)
c) If you do make fat, how efficiently do you keep that fat, and build on to it, or are you the type that uses all back up shortly after.

2) What kind of food you eat: All junk, some junk, no junk, etc. And also what exactly are you eating in those food groups? Carbs, proteins, etc.

3) How much food you eat: a little, a lot, or some other amount.

4) WHEN you eat the food: morning, noon, supper, or before going to bed.

5) How long you exercise: an hour, 3 hours, etc...

6) How intense your exercise is: A walk, a jog, a run, an intense workout, etc.

7) How often you exercise: 1/week, 2/week, etc...

8) Your attitude.... Do you want to lose weight? Gain weight? or Don't care.

These are the major factors. There are others, but these are the biggies.

So as you see, there is no simple answer. This is why some people respond well to certain diets, and some people do not.

Those of us approaching 'a certain age' can only look with jealousy on such a diet. The awful truth is that calories only get burned when work is accomplished. Given your description of food intake and the implication that you do intense exercise it would seem that you are breaking even. You could lose weight - if that was your intent - by making healthier food choices. It is certainly not impossible to lose weight on the diet you describe; Yet one must assume that your metabolism and diet are currently in balance - or you would be gaining weight like one of us old farts!
