Why does microwave popcorn have more calories before you pop it?!

Question: Ever notice the calories per bag on your microwave popcorn. The calories are MORE before you pop it. What's that about?

Answers: Ever notice the calories per bag on your microwave popcorn. The calories are MORE before you pop it. What's that about?

It really doesn't. There are less servings per container before popped. Usually the serving for popped is about a cup, and there are about 12 cups in a bag. The calories being burned off is bogus, cookies and cake don't lose calories with cooking. Also, there may be a little less because not all the oil sticks to the popcorn, some is left on the bag.

well, why would you eat the kernels?

when heat is applied to the popcorn it causes it to burn calories so your popcorn has less calories

Hmm maybe some of the calories melt away or dissolve when the popcorn pops. Sounds good to me.

because calories are energy, by popping the kernals they are losing some energy.

because it's just kernels sitting in oil before you pop it.

i think b/c when it heats up and then pops it burns some of thecalories off
