My daughter is ten and weighs 48 pounds. She is 4 feet. Too skinny?!

Question: Is my daughter underweight? One of her friends tells her that she will turn anorexic because she is small and loves to excersize.

Answers: Is my daughter underweight? One of her friends tells her that she will turn anorexic because she is small and loves to excersize.

she's just tiny. some kids are like that. my son is 10 and is small for his age too. if she's eating right and is active, i wouldn't worry about what some other kids says

well just because she likes to exercise doesnt mean she will be anorexic take her to the docter and see what they have to say she does sound underweight but there are healthy foods that will let her gain weight but not have to worry about all the fat clogginf anything up

well, yes she is. My little sister is 10 weighs somewhere in the 70's and is not heavy looking at all.

your daughter seems very underweight.
her bmi is 14.5 which is extremely underweight.

hii no no no
im 14 i went threw the same thing
but i was actually 40 pounds but trust me this
is so fine as long as its because shes being healthy
just make sure shes eating im fourteen and im only
87 pounds doctor says im fine so yea if your really worried
about it talk to your doctor and her friend is prob just jealous
tell her not to worry have a good day :)

She might be a little under weight. But dont think she is going to turn anorexic. She probobly won't. She's just naturally small. If you are really worrying about this then just tell your daughter how you feel.

she needs to gain about another 20 pounds but it depends on her height

you should tell them to shut up anorexic is a mental problem not a physical problem and up till the age of 7 or8 i was very small and short now im 4 foot 5 and weigh 100 pounds and excersise is good just make sure she eats alot of carbs like spageti or bread just dont over due it or in 5 years youll be wanting her to loose weight and so will she

can you see her ribs sticking out? does she look too skinny to you? 4ft and 48pounds is on the light side i would say. but if she is eating good maybe she has a really high metobolism. what does your doctor think?

no its good shes short so its ok.
and just because she loves to exercise docent mean
shell go anorexic
it means shes healthy her friends are jelous!(8

One cannot "turn anorexic' because of exercising too much. Anorexia is an eating disorder. If your daughter eats normally, and doesn't cause herself to vomit after eating (known as bulimia) which is another eating disorder, then there is nothing wrong! Don't let your childs friends influence your judgment over things concerning your child!

well,i would think 48 pounds is a little thin.
but don't worry.as long as shes not starving herself to reach that weight (which is what anorexic is) she should be fine.
your doctor would hopefully say something at her checkup if he belives its not healthy.

I was 48 pounds and 48 inches when I was 8 (I remember because my doctor made a big deal about how cool it was that the numbers matched). So, she's a little bit short, but proportional. No, she is not going to be anorexic, she is just going to be healthy. It is ok (and good) for kids to like exercise. Just make sure you don't talk about diets, getting fat, being too skinny, etc. in front of her. Just tell her how healthy things are (Milk is so good for you! Veggies give you vitamins! Water give you energy!), and don't discourage things because they "will make you fat."

This is how my parents raised me and I had NO concept of being fat/skinny/ugly or anything until I was 17 and someone on the outside told me I could high jump better if my butt was smaller. I was at a healthy weight and height for an athlete, but that was "the moment." So, don't tell your little girl she is chubby, skinny, etc., and discourage your friends from doing the same. "Strong," "fast," focused," "talented," "challenging," these are good words to use with her!
