How long are Eggs good for in the refigerator?!


Question: When i buy a carton of eggs i always check for the cracked ones and use them first. An intact fresh egg in the carton can last in the fridge for at least 2-3 months past the expiration date. Just to make sure before doing anything with them crack them open in a separate small dish. Good usable egg should not have a foul smell and it's yolk and white should not be runny or cloudy.

sometimes you can go a couple days past the expiry date on the end of the carton, but to be safe don't use them past that date.

Eggs are sometimes even good past the expiration date on the carton. To check if they're ok to eat or not you can drop them in a pot of water. If they float then they are bad. If they sink to the bottom you can eat them. Also, you can tell when eggs are bad after you crack them open. The yoke will look weird.

It should have an expiration date on the carton of eggs or the egg whites or egg yolks you bought. But if it is with the cartoon of regular eggs it should be 2 weeks from the time you bought the eggs. I always smell something and make sure it does not smell bad.

Eggs, like bread, have a freshness period. As they age, the whites become thinner and the yolks become flatter. Generally speaking, eggs remain edible for several weeks after they are laid. But for my money, I try to use all my eggs within a week after purchase and I make a point to keep them refrigerated. Eggs lose quality much sooner when stored at room temperature.

I strongly suggest that you not use any eggs after the date on the package, regardless if it's expressed as "EXP", "Sell By" or "Best if Used Before".

Eggs stay good for a long time, way longer than the expiration date, in my experience. I would go ahead and crack one. I figure if it's bad, I can smell it clearly enough.

Hmmm.. apart from the exp date on the carton (sometimes it can lasts longer than what the exp date tells you but sometimes it can also gone bad before what the exp date tells you), you might want to check it before using it.

Use your instinct. If your nose tells you it's not good anymore, don't use it.

To be safe use them before the date on the carton. But they also mark the due date MUCH sooner than the eggs actually spoil, sometimes they can last a month! If you open an egg, and it is spoiled, you will know it. Plus you are cooking an egg through, most of the time. So you would kill any bacteria. And even if an egg is in its prime and is raw it can still have salmonella, so it must be cooked. Just remember that a due date is not the spoil date.

Eggs should not be stored in the, where it has egg slots, rather it shoudl be kept in the original container inside of the fridge. It is colder in there, and the container also helps keep other food odors from getting into the eggs.

Do not allow eggs to sit at room temperature for a while.

And in cooking, always (with any food) keep hot food hot and cold food cold. They should be kept at 40 Degrees F. If it is a tad cooler then it only helps, not hurts. Bacteria grows more slowly the cooler it is.

If you are using eggs, make sure you wash your hands and any utensils and bowls washed after used, with warm soapy water
