Always sick with gastric bypass?!

Question: Ok here is the deal. A co worker of mine had gastric bypass in decmeber 2007(3 months ago). ever since then she has been sick. she calls off all the time and leaves early because she is "sick" she spends lots of time in the bathroom. we never see her eat. only a few cheese balls here and there. we sorta think she eats before she comes to work and then gets sick from it. we also are not understanding why she is eating only cheeseballs. shouldnt she be putting nutritious foods into her body? the problem is that we are finding ourselves picking up the pieces here at work because she calls off all the time. our boss just feels sorry for her and says" poor thing is having a hard time" should we feel sorry or think that she actually is eating things she shouldnt be behind closed doors?

It's possible she is eating things she shouldn't be, but it could just be that she really is sick. Gastric bypass is an extreme and somewhat risky procedure, which in all honesty does permanent damage to your system. It is a last resort for those who simply can't control their eating properly, and it forces control on them by constricting their potential intake so severely. Yes, she should be eating better foods, but at this point she would likely still be sick from anything she eats. It takes many months, sometimes as much as 6, for a person to adjust fully, and some never gain great function. It's up to you whether or not you choose to pity her, but it is something she took upon herself. Perhaps she should take off some time for further healing purposes...

I think she is getting sick from many diffeent food types and sticks w the cheese bc she doesnt get adverse efffects from it.

Give her some empathy, in the future you could be having a medical problem and your coworkers may need to help you out :)

It's probably too soon for her to have recovered from this type of surgery. It's really kind of her coworkers to pick up her work and look out for her (you never know when you'll need someone to pitch in for you). I'd leave this in the supervisor's hands as eventually if things don't get back on track some action will need to be taken. But, again, it's way too soon for her to be doing ok.

well first of all i think someone should talk to her about it and if it carrys on then i think she should quit the job and get some help

That is a loaded question. Some people label obesity as a disease. Is it??? I'm not sure? The affects of obesity weigh down our soceity. It is a huge and growing problem in the US.

However, in your specific situation. What if she had cancer? Would you feel differently about her? People that elect to have surgery to reduce their weight are different than people that have other illnesses? I'm not so sure.

Talk to your boss about the work load and maybe he/she can hire a temp.

have a little compassion for your fallow man.
you might need someone some day.

Hmmm... I know that her stomach is smaller, so she's only able to consume small amounts of food. She's prob eating more than her stomach will allow, therefore explaining why she's getting sick. If that's the case, I would not feel sorry for her...sounds like she's not trying. I also think gastric bypass is the lazy/cowards way of losing weight...sorry, but that's the way I feel.

Don't ever feel sorry for her, she's too lazy to lose weight naturally, she doesn't deserve to be healthy.
